December Movie Trailer Round Up

31 December 2010 4:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This month has been one of the best that I can remember for trailers. All the studios were desperate for their trailer to get released before the Christmas holidays and we were inundated with posts. Since I love trailers so much, the inundation was most welcome. In what I am considering making a monthly post, here’s a roundup of all the trailers so far for December which I have embedded below for your viewing pleasure!

I’ve embedded them in the order in which they were released start December 1st to 31st and if I miss any, please let me know and I’ll update the post.

I really want this to be intereactive so make sure you tell us which trailers you liked the best and which you think will be great or terrible movies from what you’ve seen! So, let’s go!

Rio, Reese Witherspoon-Robert Pattinson's Water For Elephants: Easter 2011 Target

26 December 2010 6:09 AM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Box Office Mojo reported a few days ago that two 20th Century Fox 2011 releases, Carlos Saldanha's animated 3D feature Rio and Francis Lawrence's period drama Water for Elephants, starring Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson (right), and Christoph Waltz, were having their North American debuts postponed by a week. Now The Hollywood Reporter explains the reason for the schedule change: Warner Bros. has moved Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love, toplining Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Marisa Tomei, from April 22 to July 29. That left an available opening at Eastertime. Thus, Fox pushed back Rio from April 5 to April 15, and Water for Elephants from April 15 to April 22. In 2011, Easter Sunday falls on April 24. International Trailer for Rio 3-D Animated Feature

24 December 2010 5:38 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Fox recently released a still image and preview clip from its new Ice Age short, Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up, which will debut attached to Jack Black's new movie, Gulliver's Travels, on Christmas Day. The short is designed to be a teaser for the fourth chapter in the Ice Age franchise, Ice Age: Continental Drift, which won't be coming to theaters until July 13, 2012. Why the long delay? Because Fox's CGI-animation studio, Blue Sky, has been hard at work on a new animated feature, Rio. Two domestic teaser trailers have already been released for the movie and now a new international trailer for the movie is online.

Next Showing: Rio opens April 8, 2011

248 Films Eligible for 2010 Best Picture and maybe 10 Deserve It

21 December 2010 8:22 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have announced that 248 feature films are eligible for best picture at the 2010 Academy Awards. According to THR, 274 films were eligible in 2009, and 281 in 2008. If I had to guess which films will be selected I would have to say Inception, Black Swan, Social Network, King’s Speech, Winter’s Bone, The Fighter, True Grit, 127 Hours, Toy Story 3 and Rabbit Hole.

To make the cut, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days.

Under Academy rules, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.

Feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion »

International trailer for Dreamworks' Rio

13 December 2010 5:38 AM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Here's the international trailer for Dreamworks' April 2011 CGI-animation release Rio, featuring the voice-talent of Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, who plays a rare Macaw parrot who thinks he's the last of his species, only to discover that there's a she-Macaw somewhere in Brazil. Played by Hathaway, the fiercely independent 'Jewel' turns out not to be any kind of an obvious match for our over-domesticated avian hero.

Ice Age and Robots director Carlos Saldanha (interestingly also responsible for many of the bizarre visual effects in David Fincher's Fight Club) is at the helm of Dreamworks' latest bid for your funnybone and heartstrings...

Anne Hathaway Meets a Possible Mate in Rio

11 December 2010 5:00 AM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It looks like The Social Network's Jesse Eisenberg is taking that whole "Like" feature to another level here with Anne Hathaway. Mind you, the upcoming Rio is a kid-friendly animated flick, so the sight of one macaw attempting to seduce another in hopes of mating is obviously pretty tame, but it's still hilarious thanks to a mood-setting disco ball and Eisenberg taking a smooth shine to Lionel Richie's super-sappy "Say You, Say Me." But, as this trailer shows, Rio is much more than just one guy trying to feel up a few feathers. Check it out and tell us what do you think? Will this flick take flight, or are you inclined to simply give it the bird? »

Jesse Eisenberg Joins Cast of ‘Free Samples’

10 December 2010 2:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Briefly: You've got to appreciate a move like this. Jesse Eisenberg is enjoying justified praise for his work in The Social Network, and will very likely score an Oscar nomination in the deal. So what does he do to follow up the film? He signs on to a small-ish indie dramedy called Free Samples. The film features Jess Weixler (Teeth) as "a law school drop-out who fills in as a server as a friend's food truck, where she doles out free samples of ice cream. The job tests her patience, and while she figures out what to do with her life, she finds herself being courted by a young man (Eisenberg) whom she barely remembers from the night before." The film is in production now. Jay Gammill (Hello, My Name is Charlie) directs from a script by Jim Beggarly, and Jason Ritter (who was in The Education of Charlie Banks with Eisenberg), Tippi Hedren, »

This week in trailers: A 'Transformers' teaser, Hugh Jackman's 'Real Steel,' and more!

10 December 2010 11:17 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

If this week’s trailers were in a Jeopardy category together, it would have to be “Movies About Things That Aren’t Human”: You’ve got the giant robots in Hugh Jackman’s Real Steel, the aliens in I Am Number Four, the giants who are both robots and aliens in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the chatty birds in Rio, and Mel Gibson’s disturbing puppet in The Beaver, to name a few. Check them out, and then let us know which one you think will get the most actual human into theaters.

Morning Meme: Nelly Furtado's Great Marriage Equality View, Andy Cohen's "A Big Gay Guy," and Chef Art Smith Meets Elmo

Good news: Ugly Betty’s Becki Newton has given birth to a healthy baby boy with her hunky husband Chris Diamantopoulos. Bad news: Her new sitcom Love Bites still doesn’t have a time slot and just had the episode order cut from 13 to 9.

We all know that the Spurf™ is launching his own TV site come January, and he’s finally revealed the name: TVLine.com. Doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it? But best of luck to Michael, he’s really good at what he does.

Out Olympic skater Blake Skjellerup is competing in China right now, and taking the time to shop for knockoff Gucci for everyone on his Christmas list. But he does wonder if China can really become a superpower while remaining Communist.

I admit that I’m fairly neutral on the music of Nelly Furtado, but I’m loving this quote. »

Here is the second trailer for Rio, from the creators of Ice Age. And, guess what? This movie is in 3-D. Okay, there's no surprise there. Almost every movie is in 3-D now. The novelty was exhausted on Avatar. Now, it's just become the new way of watching movies. Unfortunately, taking advantage of the new cinema experience requires an unnecessary tole on your pockets. While we look forward to a new film from the creators of Ice Age, we're not too excited about another animated 3-D adventure. The film features a slew of character actors including Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Jane Lynch and Wanday Sykes. Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway star. The film also features will.i.am, Leslie Mann, Jermanine Clement and Rodrigo Santoro. About Rio: Rio is a 3-D animation feature from the makers of the "Ice Age" films.
