Denied: Tobey Maguire shoots down ‘Hobbit’ casting rumors

16 December 2009 4:44 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Despite earlier claims to the contrary, Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man) has not been in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Lord Of The Rings prequel The Hobbit. The actor set the record straight on rumors that he is close to signing onto the project.

“I have not met with del Toro. We don’t have any near future plans,” says Maguire. “I don’t know if something got misconstrued or miscommunicated but the source was not accurate at all.”

When asked if he did have interest, Maguire, a professional, said he wouldn’t mind, echoing the sentiments of nearly all of Hollywood. “I love Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, and I certainly wouldn’t take myself out of the conversation… if I was part of it,” he said. “But I haven’t read a script or talked to anybody about it.”

The Hobbit is slated for a December 2011 release. »

'Avatar,' Woody Allen And A Tweet From Prison In Today's Twitter-Wood

24 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

If you read Twitter-Wood for the pictures, you picked a good day to stop by, because I've got a veritable Twitter slideshow set up for you today, starting with a Woody Allen jazz performance and including but not limited to Emmy Rossum in a turkey hat and Shakira hobnobbing with Larry King.

You may or may not have known that "Pulp Fiction" writer Roger Avary was currently serving time at Ventura County Jail in California. His tweets from inside recently came to my attention, such today's where he introduces a new neighbor. Check those posts out after the jump along with Richard Kelly's question about "Avatar," Dane Cook's problem with Adam Lambert and Michael Showalter's feelings about "Bad Lieutenant." It's all in the Twitter Report for November 24, 2009.

Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro Are Voicing Blue Sky Studios Rio

23 October 2009 9:14 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

While Blue Sky Studios has produced some great looking movies (the “Ice Age” films and “Horton Hears A Who”), only “Horton” impressed me with both its animation and story. However, since it was based on a Dr. Seuss book, that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Anyway, Blue Sky Studios, Fox Animation and director Carlos Saldanha have announced their next animated project and it’s called “Rio”. According to THR, the film follows the adventures of a nerdy macaw who leaves his small-town Minnesota cage for Rio de Janeiro. While I’m sure there is a lot more to the story, that’s the logline for now.

While the story sounds a little weak, they’re trying to get Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro to voice the film. Anything that has Neil Patrick Harris voicing a character gets a pass from me. Of course, with the three “Ice Age” movies, »

Anne Hathaway and Nph Providing Voices for Blue Sky's Rio

23 October 2009 3:22 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

We don't always report on voice casting for animated movies, but this one sounds interesting. Blue Sky Studios' next feature film is called Rio, about a nerdy macaw who breaks out of his small-town Minnesota cage and heads to the exotic Summer Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro. Fox has cast Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro as the voice talent for the film in order for it to be ready for an April, 2011 release. Brazilian-born Carlos Saldanha, who has been developing the project for years and who also directed most of Blue Sky's films including Ice Age 1 through 3 and Robots, will be directing Rio. As with DreamWorks Animation as well, I'm always interested in Blue Sky's newest original projects, but they never seem to hold up in the end. The first Ice Age is the only film out of the five that Blue Sky has »

Anne Hathaway Flies Down To Rio

Following the behemoth of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ($880m in receipts and counting), the next 3D digital animation from Fox is set to be Rio. Anne Hathaway and Neil Patrick Harris are in negotiations for voice duties, and the director will once again be Carlos Saldanha. The story is not about Hathaway dancing on the sand, just like a river twisting through a dusty land, but a "nerdy mccaw" who escapes from his cage in Minnesota and heads south for some fun in the sun. Rodrigo Santoro (Xerxes in 300) is also in talks for a role.Harris, who also provided a voice for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, is doing rather well for himself lately, what with his ongoing series How I Met Your Mother, the Harold and Kumar appearances, and the awesome Doctor Horrible's Singalong Blog. Neil Patrick Harris Takes Anne Hathaway To Rio

22 October 2009 9:46 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Is there anyone as cool as Neil Patrick Harris right now? I.m trying to think of someone, and I guess there.s always George Clooney, but even he doesn.t have the all-encompassing talent of Harris. The dude can sing, dance, act like a douchey womanizer even though he.s not really into women. He.s even great at being self-deprecating. If he spoke Aramaic, I.d swear he was the second coming of Jesus (my friend, Jesus [pronounced Heh-soos], not that god guy you.re thinking of). I guess he.s even good at being a voice actor because THR reports that he along with Anne Hathaway and Rodrigo Santoro have joined the cast of Rio, Carlos Saldanha.s latest animated movie about a nerdy parrot who travels to the exotic city of Rio de Janeiro. Both Harris and Hathaway have been successful in animation before, with the »
