Smoothing Out Clunky Comic Book Stories
27 March 2010 | by See all my reviews

To promote new comic book character Firestorm, an entire convoluted origin was conceived for the Red Tornado in which he was the robot taken over by two alien entities, one the Tornado Champion and the other, the Tornado Tyrant.

Whether these whirling dervishes appeared before Firestorm's comic book arrival is irrelevant. The story was a mess and all over the board.

The cartoon opted to simplify this with the same titles of Tyrant and Champion, but now Red Tornado was on a different quest for humanity in the guise of being a father (something he opted to do in the comic book as well, with a truly bizarre masquerade with an orphan child and a girlfriend, followed by 'see how human I am?') Once again, worked better in the cartoon.
