A well crafted episode that leaves you thinking
stvymvy19 September 2023
This episode flouts the usual narrative conventions of mystery fiction to throw a curve ball at viewers. In that sense it resembles the "Habeus Corpus" episode of Midsomer Murders, which similarly angered some fans but remains worth watching, even if it's not among the very best offerings from the franchise.

If the lack of a neat climax bothers you, consider that it's not through a lack of understanding of what happened. As is pointed out more than once late in the episode, the situation is complicated, and if it doesn't draw down to a traditional crime-show resolution, it is in fact adequately explained. We do learn in the end how one thing led to another.

Enjoy this one for the colorful characters, the thick web of motives, the team's struggle to assemble a perverse puzzle, and a poignant ending that has nothing to do with the mystery but everything to do with the larger series arc.

Who actually did it?

Im so confused. I have watched the ending twice and I still don't know who did it. Im a huge fan of Brokenwood but this ending is by far the most unclear.

Back and Forth of Who Done It Confusing
This episode started out okay, but slid into beyond boring. The story line of the sisters was neither funny nor compelling. It seems the writer ran out of ideas.
