This feature was made at the request of New Line Home Entertainment, who wanted to explicitly show how negligible the differences between the two versions are. Knowing the devoted fan base for David Cronenberg, they anticipated angry letters if information was left unclear and rumors began to spread about a "less violent" cut being released at the behest of the US distributor.
