Shenae Grimes Talks Hollywood & Halloween

22 October 2012 2:00 PM, PDT | TheInsider.com | See recent The Insider news »

Actors spend their lives playing dress up, but they're constantly forced to wear what others want to see them in. So when Halloween rolls around, it's the rare opportunity for the stars to play dress up on their own terms! And for this year's All Hallows' Eve, 90210 star Shenae Grimes is partnering with Project Runway alum Chris March and Mattel's Monster High to create the most ghoulish get-up imaginable!

You can get a sneak peek at Shenae's Frankie Stein costume above (the full ensemble will debut at Matthew Morrisson Halloween bash, presented by Monster High) and find out what made her want to partner with the brand below. Additionally, Shenae recalls her best October 31 ever and opens up about the exhausting yet exhilarating last five years spent making 90210.

TheInsider.com: What made Monster High the perfect inspiration for your Halloween costume?

Sunderland 1-1 Newcastle: 8 Key Things We Learned

22 October 2012 9:17 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Another year, another typically firey Wear-Tyne derby. Newcastle will no doubt have walked away with most of the plaudits thanks to a strong and spirited display despite the loss of fearsome defensive midfielder Cheick Tiote to a first half red card that has seemingly split the Newcastle fans in half, and in truth Sunderland never looked like capitalising too much on their one man advantage, even with 65 minutes to do it in.

Both managers can probably be happy with a point: Pardew given the nature of the draw – though not given how long the Magpies protected their slender lead – and O’Neill given how poorly his team played for good portions of the game. Neither side has yet reached their full potential this season, and neither has got all of their best players working together particularly well, and it is down to the managers to change something as we begin »

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 Review

11 October 2012 11:31 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Every year, Konami does its best to outperform interactive footie’s premiere contender, FIFA Soccer. In 2011, the series’ releases were both quality titles that any sports gamer would be proud to own, but EA Sports’ venerable franchise took the cake as being the best of the two offerings – at least in my opinion. While Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 was a very fun and enjoyable experience, it lacked some of the finesse that its competitor featured, not to mention a diverse selection of game modes.

Advancing to present day hasn’t changed the battle. Another year has passed, but the two companies are still fighting for retail sales. The competition is as fierce as it’s been in recent memory, and Konami has stepped up to the plate in a relatively big way. In fact, after last year’s review scores and sales figures came in, the company decided to go back to the drawing board, »

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Preview

11 October 2012 5:51 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Another year, another realistic, gritty first person shooter. If modern military shooters were a virus, they would be the common cold. Infecting the general populace every now and then throughout the year. Always adapting, never quite disappearing. It was with this somewhat dour attitude that I tackled EA’s other shooter with a somewhat silly name, Warfighter. What I got was a game of two halves.

The first thing I got to tackle was the single player campaign, where my team of ultimate bad asses had to assault some urban ruins in a wet and somewhat flooded level, because there were bad men about, and I had to shoot them. They were war, and I was a fighter.

The controls were your standard shooty controls. Grenades, sidearms, aiming and vaulting. All of these thing were mapped to the buttons you expect them to be mapped to. Before I go and »

'Supernatural': The showrunners talk Sam and Dean's new dynamic and all those flashbacks

3 October 2012 7:01 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Supernatural has a new showrunner, Jeremy Carver, returning to the show after some time away helming Syfy’s Being Human, and it looks like he is working to strike a balance between giving fans something fresh and staying close to the show’s roots. Supernatural wouldn’t be the same without classic rock, and tonight’s season 8 opener delivered on that musical note straight away with Styx’s “Man In The Wilderness.” Tommy Shaw croons in the 1977 song, “Another year has passed me by / … What kind of man have I become?”

Indeed, that’s the question Sam and Dean will »

Spooky kids abound in new 'Paranormal Activity 4' trailer

27 September 2012 3:10 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Another year, another "Paranormal Activity" film. The second trailer for "Paranormal Activity 4" hit the Internet this week (has it really been a year since I wrote this?), and it's chock full of found footage, creepy kids and low-rent effects that could creep out even the most jaded of horror fans. While part 3 turned back the clock to Katie's (Angela Featherstone) creepy childhood, the upcoming part 4 takes place five years after the events in part 2, which ended with a possessed Katie kidnapping her young nephew, Hunter. When Katie is hospitalized, her "son" "Robbie" (really Hunter) moves in with »

Another year, another Hollywood award show where really fancy golden barbecue skewers are handed out. The 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards made for a relatively brisk (well, they stayed under three hours) while fairly predictable (well, at least drama had a new winner) evening. Host Jimmy Kimmel returned for the second time, and opened the show with a skit featuring some of the leading ladies of primetime. It was fitting, considering ladies stole the show in what was otherwise a relatively snoozy affair. Here is a look at the real winners and some should have been winners. Also, of course, the dresses.

Outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series: Julie Bowen, Modern Family

Her mention of nipple covers and sister wives in her acceptance speech felt a little like she was auditioning for her own show on TLC. »

This Year’s “Treehouse Of Horror” Episode Of “The Simpsons”

21 September 2012 3:53 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Another year, another episode of Treehouse Of Horror from the classic animated comedy The Simpsons. While the debate about whether The Simpsons is still relevant anymore is a topic best saved for another time, if there’s one episode that you should care to see, it’s this one.

This year marks the 23rd episode in the annual horror episode department, featuring spoofs of Paranormal Activity, Bill & Ted’S Excellent Adventure, and I’m sure dozens more. Here’s a description for the episode that premieres Sunday October 7th:

Destined to be yet another classic Halloween-themed episode of The Simpsons, in the opener of the 23rd annual “Treehouse of Horror,” we go back to ancient times when a Mayan Homer and Marge are witnesses to the prediction by ancient calendar makers that 2012 will be the end of the world. In “The Greatest Story Ever Holed,” the first of three spine-chilling stories, »

Atlantic Film Festival 2012: ‘Teddy Bear’ – a thoughtful and human portrait

20 September 2012 1:44 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Teddy Bear

Written by Mads Matthiesen, Martin Zandvliet

Directed by Mads Matthiesen

Denmark, 2012

Teddy Bear tells the story of Danish bodybuilder Dennis Petersen. At 38 Dennis has never had a girlfriend but is ready for true love. However, living with his aging and controlling mother, an intimidating physical appearance and a good amount of social awkwardness are making this pursuit harder than we might imagine. When his cousin recommends Dennis do as he has done and find a wife in Thailand, Dennis decides to give it a shot and embarks on the journey. When he finds he has nothing in common with the kind of girls his cousin has in mind, Dennis wanders into the only familiar place in an unfamiliar environment – an exercise gym. Here he meets a woman who is different from the others and who may just be the kind of woman Dennis had in mind.

Based on the premise alone, »

Tiff 2012 Review: Paradise: Love Doesn't Flinch, But You Might

7 September 2012 7:00 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

(The film screens at Tiff this afternoon and again on Saturday and Sunday. Here's our review from this year's Cannes festival.) Another year at Cannes, another polarizing film that splits audiences. Ulrich Seidl's Paradise: Love, the first in his trilogy of "paradise" films (next up is Faith followed by Hope), is a confrontational, often ugly depiction of different forms of desperation and exploitation set against a sex tourism backdrop, and indeed, the audience seemed split between vehement disgust and fervent praise. It's no surprise given the subject matter and the characteristically explicit, unflinching way with which Seidl handles the material. While my own opinion leans toward the fervent praise side of the debate, it's still a decidedly flawed film, to the point where I can't »

Tiff 2012: Simon’s 30 most anticipated films

30 August 2012 2:48 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The Toronto International Film Festival is a ludicrous bounty of cinematic riches, showcasing hundreds of potentially amazing films both old and new. That it’s all crammed into only 10 days means it’s too much for any one mere mortal to even get a proper grasp of. With that “problem” in mind, here’s a painstakingly narrowed list of 30 to try and catch.

Antiviral

David Cronenberg’s son Brandon’s first feature, Antiviral may well sate the appetites of Cronenberg fans who lament the director’s late-career turn into (relatively) middlebrow fare. The creepy teaser promises eerie, creeping body horror, artfully executed, of the sort Daddy used to make.

The ABCs of Death

Horror anthologies are always a tantalizing prospect, but rarely do the segments come together to form a satisfying whole; usually, a weak effort or two sours the bunch. The ABCs of Death might well be the most ambitious film of its kind, »

'Paranormal Activity 4' Trailer Isn't Scary But Quite Interesting

Another year, another Paranormal Activity

Paramount has finally found their Saw with Paranormal Activity, a new horror series that produces sequel and after sequel after sequel.  Unlike Saw, I enjoyed all of the films the Pa series so far and am looking forward to each new iteration.  I groaned when Saw II was announced and was ecstatic when PA2 and PA3 were announced so you can probably feel my excitement for Paranormal Activity 4.  »

Ten Lessons Learned at Comic-Con 2012

18 July 2012 9:37 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Another year at Comic-Con, another set of lessons learned. Once again, I’m recapping the event with the top ten things I’ve learned from the convention during this year’s stay.

Overall, it was a great Con. A big improvement over last year’s. For one thing, Disney and Marvel came crawling back after abandoning San Diego in favor of their own expo last year. There was also some terrific scheduling, with the big TV and movie panels designated to rooms and time of day that felt appropriate, unlike last year. Here are some of the highlights.

Comic-con 2012: Things to Look Out For

Another year, another headache in trying to figure out your Comic-Con schedule and making it work (#NerdWorldProblems). I leave for San Diego on Wednesday morning and my head is already half-bald from tearing my hair in frustration over which panels to sacrifice this time. One of these days that cloning technology will be mine.

For those of you on the same boat, I present a guide that might be helpful to consider. Here are some of the more interesting things happening at the Con this year both on and off site that you might want to put on the priority list, if you haven't already.

Another year, another Hot 100! This marks the sixth time we've asked our readers to rank the male celebrities they think are "hot." It's a big deal being on our Hot 100 list, an exclusive club so to speak. Increasingly in recent years, the men who grace our list take notice and appreciate the fans and supporters who voted for them.

Now that the results have been announced, we've heard both via Twitter and also directly from many of our Hot 100 men. I'm sure we'll hear from others over the next couple weeks, but thought I'd round up and share with you the many gracious responses so far.

But before we get to that, I've got some big news. On July 16th at the W Hotel in Hollywood our Hot 100 is making the leap to the physical world! Yes, it's our First Annual Hot 100 Party!
