Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck to Direct Angelina Jolie in “The Tourist”

While it was rumored last week, IGN has now confirmed that Angelina Jolie will be replacing Charlize Theron and Variety now says that Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is tipped to direct Spyglass thriller “The Tourist” which is set to start production in February 2010.

The Tourist” will be the first movie for von Donnersmarck since the German director’s 2006 breakout The Lives of Others, which won the Academy Award for foreign-language film.

A remake of 2005 French thriller “Anthony Zimmer“, the story follows an American tourist (Sam Worthington) finds his life in danger when a female Interpol agent (Angelina Jolie) uses him as a dupe to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.

Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2) wrote the screenplay.

The Tourist” is scheduled for release in 2011.

X-Men and Deadpool Updates from Producer

Empire Magazine had the chance to sit down with X-Men producer Lauren Shuler-Donner about the upcoming origin stories, prequels, and spin-offs coming from Marvel’s mutant world.

Shuler-Donner confirms Hugh Jackman will be headed to Japan to shoot on location for X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, or whatever the title will eventually be.  The comic book storyline centers on the clawed mutant falling for Mariko Yashida, the heiress to the Yakuza crime family.

Wolverine will be fighting in a different style to what we’ve seen before,” she said, indicating a battle between him and Mariko’s father, Shingen Yashida.  It will involve “samurai, ninja, katana blades, different forms of martial arts — mano-a-mano, extreme fighting.” This plot also suggests a possible showdown with mutant supervillain Silver Samurai, but maybe I’m just stretching it.  After all, who doesn’t want to see mutant ninjas?

The producer also spoke about X-Men: First Class, »

Which Upcoming X-Men Movies Should You Expect?

Slashfilm recently landed some quotes from longtime X-Men franchise producer Lauren Schuler Donner about future X-Men films, so I figure now's as good a time as any to take a look at each potential film and where it stands in development: X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 Despite the weak critical reception of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (I still say it was loads, loads better than Last Stand), it made $180 million here in the U.S., good enough for a follow-up.  As teased in one of the hidden post-credit sequences of Wolverine, the new film will be based on Wolverine's Japan stories -- according to »

Dear Hugh Jackman

2 September 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Dear Hugh Jackman, You were in the hit movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" the popular film that- as hinted at in the title- chronicles the origins of your popular X-Men character Wolverine, which is awesome. They put you underwater in that movie and were total dicks about it, but you won in the end. According to my extensive and thorough research on you, Hugh Jackman, you are also going to be in the soon-to-be hit movie "Wolverine 2" (full title "X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2), which I am pretty sure is going to be just as awesome if not even more awesome than the first "Wolverine" movie (as if that is even possible). You were also in the films "Van Helsing" and "Making the Grade" and plus a lot of other movies besides those. I could go on, but »
