Trivia

Of the mysterious, and already hatched egg, Magnus says it has a reptilian shell membrane but amniotic fluid consistent with an insect. Insects do not have amniotic eggs. These days only mammals, birds, and reptilies are amniotic. Instead, insects have an extraembryonic membrane, the serosa, which keeps the egg from drying out. See more »

Probably the worst episodes I've seen so far
15 February 2016 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

When it comes to Sanctuary, I like the idea of it and I will say some episodes pull through (although so far they're mostly in the first season) I'll say that the second season ranges from bland to good except for this. This is quite possibly the worst idea for a supernatural drama episode and I've seen a supernatural drama episode where the lead gets turned into a vampire muppet.

The plot is that Will and Henry are attacked following an abnormal, this one is a superhero... No, really. The abnormal keeps going off their trail and the superhero guy raises interest because even for a show with a teleporting half-vampire Jack The Ripper, this is strange to them. They try and make this humorous by making him quote comic books and say his origin story as a mixture of comic book characters. How do they know this? Because Henry is such a comic book fan he has enough spare time on his hands to read them to the point of quotation. He also thinks the Sanctuary are supervillains with the costume turning out to be a microscopic abnormal race clinging to someone who wants to be a superhero.

Now, if this was their crazy and whacky comedic idea then the thing this show fails massively at on all fronts is the comedy. If Kate wasn't the point where the show screams it with one of her first episodes having the joke that she's right about luring an abnormal back into the Sanctuary with hamburgers then this is the point where the show's comedy fails. Even so, the idea for this show's comedic "can't be taken seriously no matter what" episodes then it's not really a bad idea. I just think the jokes when it comes down to it is either awful in writing or in the actors' delivery of those lines.

Okay so what's good about the episode? Not that much I'm afraid. Take the superhero stuff out and concentrate them on finding the abnormal they're looking for rather then stumbling on the biggest "What the f#ck?!" character in the show's history then this becomes one of the blander episodes, but being that they're including someone I only know as a conspiracy theorist on Supernatural and putting them in pinkish-red spandex for the entire episode and have him fly and have super strength among other powers sinks the episode into being quite possibly the worst of the entire show.

I'd say watch it if you like the comedy of the show. If you're like me and have the same expression before, during and after the attempts at comedy then this is awful. The best way I can describe it is that based on this episode they seem to think they could pull out the whacked out episodes usually in Joss Whedon shows or other shows of this type with much better humour and while I do like this show at times humour is probably the weakest point the show has in my opinion.
