Tribeca Film Festival Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal Asks Industry Women to ‘Commit to Mentoring the Next Generation’

3 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Jane Rosenthal is mad as hell, but she’s got an idea for how to turn that anger into action. After weeks of allegations of sexual harassment and abuse against various bigwigs in the entertainment industry, many of them waged by actresses and female filmmakers, the producer has cooked up a plan to help change the industry and the world. No surprise, it asks for talented and rising women to help each other in a male-dominated business, all for the better.

Rosenthal, who co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert DeNiro and currently serves Chief Executive Officer of Tribeca Enterprises, today opened up this year’s kickoff lunch for the third annual Through Her Lens: Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program, with some pointed remarks. As she put it, “I’m having a Howard Beale moment. Like the character Peter Finch played in ‘Network,’ I’m mad as hell,” later adding, »

Weinstein Co. Bankruptcy Threat or Sale Looms as Leadership Divided Over Fate of Company (Exclusive)

12 October 2017 3:55 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Amid an exodus of business partners, board members and creative talent, leaders of the embattled Weinstein Co. are divided over the next step for the company that has been shaken to the core by explosive allegations of sexual assault and harassment at the hands of its co-founder and former co-chairman Harvey Weinstein. Industry observers said some form of bankruptcy reorganization is becoming increasingly likely as the company’s prospects deteriorate.

TWC co-chairman Bob Weinstein and COO David Glasser are said to be advocating a batten-down-the-hatches strategy while the law firm hired to investigate the growing number of claims about Harvey Weinstein’s alleged misconduct completes its work. Sources said the two believe they can be exonerated of accusations that they knew of the worst allegations against Harvey. But other TWC board members are said to be pushing for the company to begin a sale process.

Another scenario that has been widely speculated is that TWC will volunteer »

Casino Hollywood – Glitz, Glamour, & Drama

A high-stakes bet gone wrong. A crooked casino boss. A pretty girl, excessive smoking, and some booze.

These are all the tell-tale signs of a Hollywood casino movie. And there’s no shortage of beloved films that depict the reality of casinos, albeit over-the-top at times.

Most people only frequent the casinos from time to time – or hardly at all. But we love the world that Hollywood creates around a casino.

We love the glitz and the glamour. We love the adrenaline and the thrills and the danger. Many of us have fantasized about living a deviant lifestyle at some point or another. Casino films give us that 90-minute escape into a world of money, risk, and living on-the-edge.

And there were some performances in casino movies that were so unforgettable that we go back to relive the excitement again and again.

Oliver Stone Slams Media’s ‘Extremist,’ ‘Anti-Russian Fervor’

14 August 2017 5:04 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Presenting his latest work, “The Putin Interviews,” at the Sarajevo Film Festival on Monday, Oliver Stone took aim at the U.S. mainstream media for its inability or refusal to look beyond the established image of Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

The festival honored Stone on Sunday with its Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award for his “exceptional contribution to film art.” As part of the tribute, the fest is screening four of Stone’s films, including “Snowden,” “Natural Born Killers,” and “Platoon.”

At a Q&A session during and after an entire four-hour screening of “The Putin Interviews,” Stone also touched on the powerlessness of Donald Trump in setting U.S policy, claiming the unwavering course of the country was set by the deep state, regardless of the White House occupant, but nevertheless warned of the U.S. president’s recent threats of military action in Asia and South America.
