The early British producers, Robert Paul among them, were very middle-class in their tastes, aiming their serious and comic works at the worries of the middle class: kidnappings by gypsies, beatings by wayfarers, drunkenness and all the other hallmarks of respectability. In this one, when the burglar comes in, it's the husband who hides under the bed, the wife who argues and the little girl who fetches the police, turning the usual assumptions on their heads.

We're still in first movies, shot on a stage, in real time in one continuous take and the acting is still the same as on the stage. As a movie it's awful, but it's still amusing on its own terms.
