A Lonely Place to Die (2011) Poster

The festival which takes place in the village is based on an actual event known as the Stonehaven Fireball Festival. It's an annual ritual drama, held on December 31st in the remote Aberdeenshire village of Stonehaven.
Director Julian Gilbey and brother Will who co-wrote the script became avid and experienced climbers to make this film.
While scouting locations for the film, the Gilbey brothers used head cameras while climbing and exploring various locations. These videos appear in the end credits of the film to look like "home movies" of the films climbing group.
While filming one of the mountain climbing scenes, a boulder came crashing down, almost landing on the crew below.
When the climbers point out the 'Bald Eagle'. It is in fact a Harris Hawk.
Franka Potente was originally cast as Alison, but was eventually replaced by Melissa George.
