Reb Halland, who lived in the era of Wild West, has made a deal with the devil to gain immortality along with his gang. Preacher McCready is trying to protect the small town by placing five totems around it in the shape of the pentacle. One day, a collector passes by the town and sees one of the totems pinned to the earth, and he decides to take it. When the man takes the totem out of ground, Halland and his gang arrives and starts killing everyone, then commit ritual suicide. The film moves to the present day when a group of college students, who are driving back home from another city after a debate contest, suddenly find themselves at this town. Soon, they start to be murdered one by one, and it will be up to them to find the secret of the town and destroy Halland and his gang.
A new preacher arrives in town to try to repel a gang involved in a Satanic cult. He explains that his workers have placed totems in a pentagram shape to keep the cult of 5 people out. As they are discussing the details, a hoarder picks up one of the totems and breaks the pentagram. The five ride into town and kill every citizen. They then commit suicide in their deal for immortality from Satan. Now every 13 years, they return to continue killing. Today, a group of college students on a bus becomes trapped in the town. As they are killed one-by-one, some figure out how to rid the area of these ghosts. They also realize that they become stronger with every kill. They figure out where the final totem has been stashed and are able to obtain it. They place the totem, thus causing the ghosts to vanish into nowhere. As the remaining teens leave the town, one totem burns up.
A bus full of college students stumble across an abandoned western town and realize it is haunted by the ghosts of outlaws who brutally killed the residents and now kill visitors every 13 years on Friday the 13th to become stronger.
