- Asher MacLean: I think you might show a little more respect.
- Patrick Jane: Respect for a...
- Chief Elaine Brody: There's a dead child here.
- Patrick Jane: Yes. Yes. He's dead. He doesn't care how I talk to you.
- Elliot: How did you know it was me?
- Patrick Jane: When Cassie brought Maclean tea in a cup with z's on it, that was a warning from you to keep his mouth shut. You were the first to bring forth the Zachariah story. And you've been at this school longer than anyone else, with no desire to leave. The sacred fire ceremony confirmed my hunch. Everybody else was scared that I was invoking Zachariah, but you, you were contemptuous and cynical. A true artist watching a cheap imitator. Until fear made you a believer. It can do that to you.
- Patrick Jane: I would've gotten more out of them, but you came back too quickly.
- Teresa Lisbon: Reality check: I'm your Supervising Agent. I'm not your decoy.
- Patrick Jane: [to Justin's parents] Your son died bravely. He saved a young girl in trouble. You should be very proud.
- Patrick Jane: What kind of tree is this?
- Chief Elaine Brody: Couldn't say.
- Patrick Jane: Smells good. So you're not a local?
- Chief Elaine Brody: Born five miles down the road. Just don't give a crap about trees.
- Patrick Jane: Who's Zachariah?
- Asher MacLean: Who?
- Patrick Jane: Zachariah.
- Asher MacLean: Never heard of him. Who is he?
- Patrick Jane: Liar.
- Asher MacLean: Liar?
- Patrick Jane: Pants on fire. They're ablaze.
- Wayne Rigsby: Can I ask you something? Would you - have you ever read your coworker's personnel files
- Grace Van Pelt: [confused] Uh. No. Why?
- Wayne Rigsby: No. Good. Neither did I.
- Chief Elaine Brody: Do you have any actual facts?
- Patrick Jane: Well, it's an actual fact that you dislike Mr. MacLean here because he's a tree-hugging, liberal wacko, who's probably running some kind of a cult, and he dislikes you because you're a small-minded provincial hayseed. Not that you are, necessarily. That's just what he thinks.
- Teresa Lisbon: Jane what the hell are you playing at? You can't tie people up.
- Patrick Jane: I'm sorry.
- Teresa Lisbon: I should think you are. You'll be sorrier when I report this.
- Wayne Rigsby: So what does it say?
- Kimball Cho: What?
- Wayne Rigsby: My file.
- Kimball Cho: You didn't even read your own file?
- Wayne Rigsby: No. It's against the rules.
- Kimball Cho: You're kidding.
- Wayne Rigsby: I like rules. Why be a cop if you don't like rules? What did it say?
- Kimball Cho: You know what it says. It's your life. No surprises. Well, I didn't know you were adopted, but other than that...
- Wayne Rigsby: [Dumfounded] Adopted? What?
- Kimball Cho: Kidding.
- Patrick Jane: Name?
- Orrin: Orrin.
- Patrick Jane: Orrin. Watch me now. I'll demonstrate the power of telecognition. I will read your thoughts.
- [Stands close to Orrin, with his hands on either side of his head]
- Patrick Jane: Hmmm. You're thinking - "Gosh I hope he can't read my thoughts, because then he'll know that I was up in the woods with Justin Prentiss on the night before he died, throwing paint bombs at the ol' crazy man's door."
- [Stands and speaks normally]
- Patrick Jane: Orrin, that was kind of dumb. You should have thought of something a little more innocent.
- Marshall Winston: How am I supposed to know who you are? You're bangin' on my doors, "CBI! CBI!" Like that's supposed to mean somethin'?
- Kimball Cho: Yeah, we do need better brand awareness.
- Wayne Rigsby: Who sends their kids to a place like this? It's not cheap either.
- Kimball Cho: A little discipline is good for the soul.
- Wayne Rigsby: Yeah, but this is like a juvie prison camp.
- Kimball Cho: No. This is like Spring Break Cancun compared to juvie.
- Wayne Rigsby: Wait. You were in Juvenile Hall? Seriously?
- Kimball Cho: Yeah. Didn't you read my file?
- Wayne Rigsby: No. Did you read mine?
- Kimball Cho: Of course.
- Teresa Lisbon: Orrin, we can let this or or we can take it to the next level. And that's going to involve your parents and lawyers.
- Bryan: Z krew's got nothing to do with Justin's murder.
- Teresa Lisbon: Do you?
- Bryan: No! You want my guess?
- Asher MacLean: Guesswork is inappropriate for this sort of situation, Bryan.
- Bryan: Guesswork's okay.
- Grace Van Pelt: [Rigsby's soaking and half dressed] What happened to you?
- Kimball Cho: Old age.
- Wayne Rigsby: Shut up you. What are you doing here?
- Grace Van Pelt: Gee, thanks for the welcome.
- Teresa Lisbon: Chief Broady's setting up for a full scale search. So we should probably start looking in the woods around the school.
- Patrick Jane: Oh, that sounds horribly tedious.
- [Starts walking away]
- Patrick Jane: Shout if you need me.
- Teresa Lisbon: Go ahead. Relax. Enjoy yourself. God forbid you should do anything tedious.
- Chief Elaine Brody: [after slapping Asher] You miserable little pervert!
- Teresa Lisbon: That's enough Chief.
- Asher MacLean: She assaulted me!
- Teresa Lisbon: I don't think so. We're going back to Sacramento. Now we can either come of your own accord. Or we can arrest you. Which is it?
- Patrick Jane: I'd like to talk to Justin's friends.
- Asher MacLean: Of course. He was in Missy Jenkin's teaching pod. Bear in mind, I or one of my staff members need to be present when you talk with any of our students.
- Patrick Jane: You do?
- Asher MacLean: It's the law.
- Patrick Jane: Really?
- Patrick Jane: Zachariah and the Z krew.
- Orrin: Why should I tell you? You know what I'm thinking.
- Patrick Jane: Yes, but it would be more polite if you said it aloud, for their benefit.
- [Gestures to Lisbon and Maclean]
- Patrick Jane: So what's the deal with Justin? Who disliked him?
- Elliot: Nobody. He was... fine.
- Patrick Jane: Oh, you say that like he was a prize jerk.
- Marley: No. He wouldn't win any prizes.
