In explaining how the magnetron in a microwave oven heats food, Alton invokes Einstein's formula on the equivalence of matter and energy, E = mc2. However, Alton is not talking about the conversion of matter to energy (or vice-versa) but is rather explaining how electromagnetic waves vibrate water molecules to produce heat.
