Amblystoma is a genus of salamanders. It's best known species is the axolotl, a good word for scoring well in Scrabble, but most interesting to naturalist because unless the ponds it grows up in dry out, it retains its juvenile features, including gills. This tendency to always look like a youngster is called neoteny by people who specialize in such things.
According to the research I did between looking at this short science film and writing this review - did you think I remember all this stuff? Flatterer! - the axolotl's genera is called the mole salamanders, which sounds pretty weird, even without the gills, and the other is called the Pacific Giant Salamanders. Sounds like something out of a 1950S sci-fi movie. Looks it, too.
