Good series with an amazing Drama
shovonbhattacharjee27 January 2022
The story line of this series is good and the acting is also good but it has lots of drama. Series could be more interesting if the story is not like too much drama. Overall good series.

Smooth take off with a crash landing
ayusht-0502116 January 2022
The moment this series starts you start connecting with the characters because of their great acting skills, but soon enough you start feeling cheated. None of the characters stick to their origin and starts looking confused.

The premise chosen was great in the start but falls flat in later episodes, and adding to it is the inconclusive ending.

A REVIEW FOR THE WRITERS AND AUDIENCE
pranabray-846481 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The entire story doesnt make sense. The writers could have done a much better job in making the show more authentic and alive. Purva who was supposed to be the villain of the story is nearly like the apple of the eyes of the audience by now. She is not the antagonist but rather the protogonist (or should i say the anti hero) is the real antagonist. One cannot really ascertain if he had had psychopathic tendencies from the very start of the show or if it just evolved in him by the situations he frequently finds himself in and might i include, he brings 90 percent of all the troubles unto himself and not the others - but one thing is certain - he has become a psychopath and a sociopath by the end of season 1.

Now, his love for Shikha too is no longer a pure, true one, but has been constantly on a gradual descent to stark obsessiveness since the very 2nd episode.

The wiser thing, the self sacrifical thing to do here would have been to let Shikha go. He did whatever he could, and when things didnt work out, he should have let it be. Instead, he kept making wrong choices, lying which led to more and more lies, then murders, and then tens of killings.

Just to have Purva killed, he agreed to blow out an entire stage and hall full of audience. Many, many innocents died.

At the start of the show, the main character confesses that three things ruin a man: Power, money and women. And while that may be true, but in this series, it is the protagonist himself who has ruied himself and others around him. WHY and HOW? Obsession over the dream to live a simple, mediocre life with a woman he thinks he loves but even that can be doubted at this point. He rather wants to possess the woman he declares he loves.

On the point of Purva, when Vikrant announced to Purva that he didnt want to marry her - Purva actually let him leave, but it was her sociopathic father who then forced him to marry his daughter. Poor Purva wasnt even aware of the electricity cuts, the water cuts, the data cuts. How is she the antagonist in any way. Much like the premise of the show seems to suggest, that isnt the case. If you writers want to make a psychological thrill on the descent of madness of a common man faced with atrocities, the plot of the show could be understood. But thats not the genre of the show as declares is it? Nor the intention.

Also. Plot holes. O yeah, mountains of plot holes. Professional assassin turned rogue? Car bumping over stone to prevent the assassination. Mistaking bullet on the windshield for a stone? A powerful politician dumb enough to kill the lover of a dude and marry him off to his daughter WITHOUT thinking of the consequences? The party gundas lying about Purvas death to Dharmesh without thinking of the consequences? Father in law giving a loaded gun to Vikrant after killing his beloved and that too after abruptly disturbing their honeymoon? People randomly capturing photos of two lover kissing in the space between two vehicles? So many lies and still Purva doesnt catch on, what is she, a log of wood? Purva being so hot and attractive that even a blind man gets a hardon and still the dude obsessively thinking of killing her.

COMEON, ALREADY!

In my opinion, he just needs to open his mouth instead of being so afraid of Purva. Girl may be possessive but genuinely loves him too. She isnt the villain, Vikrant is.

Why do people not enjoy the pulp fiction genre? Its twisty, dark and pulpy. You need to immerse into the world of the characters. Its a very good series.

Story is too stretched so far!
whoareyou-2512016 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They could have completed this story in 5 episodes. But they haven't compelted even in 8 episodes and 1 season. They are too arrogant and stupid to think their audience could wait for another season for auch a simple story to end! Their previous productions (Undekhi and Apharan) were not too bad because they had a slick story and finished in one season. The director and writer got too greedy for their own good in this series!

An Engrossing Obsessive Love Drama With Stellar Performances
ketgup8314 January 2022
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein tells the story of a simple guy Vikrant (Tahir Raj Bhasin) who is forced to get hitched with Purva (Anchal Kumar), daughter of big shot local politician. Vikrant is in love with Shikha (Shweta Tripathi) and must find a way out to break away from the shackle before his life goes into a dark path.

From the director of extremely lovable, Apharan, Sidharth Sengupta comes back with yet another crime drama which will keep you engaged right from the beginning. While the trailer of Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein was a plain simple giving a notion of obsessed lover desiring her object, the 8 episodes web series turned out to be much better than expected

Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein is a refreshing take on obsessive love with twist and turns that will keep you guessing till the end.

Guilty pleasure flick.
RjNeel14 January 2022
It's mindless, shallow and at times tawdry but somehow keeps you invested till the very end. I doubt it will find favors from so called "critics" but they exist on a different plain.

The music is awesome. Saurabh Shukla is the main attraction of the show. He literally owned the screen in his every single appearance. Anchal Singh was very convincing as the diabolical sociopath. Tahi Raj Bhasin was average at best. Not very impressed by his performance. Mostly forgetabble.

Hopefully, there is a season 2. Interesting cliffhanger. Much better than the overhyped Haseen Dilruba.

The chronicles of a spineless hero and his lunatic wife.
Perspicuity131 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After watching the trailer, I couldn't understand as to why they made a series out of this story. I had no real expectations from the show, and only decided to watch it after it received some positive reviews. I must say, I was quite disappointed. I don't know why some people are lauding praises on this show. First of all, my original opinion was correct that this story should have been told as a movie, because there is nothing much in it to be carried on for 8 episodes. It's an extremely slow paced show that fails to grab your attention at any point of time. On top of that, you get frustrated with the actions of the characters. The leading man in this series is not a hero, instead he's a wuss, and it's very difficult to like and support such characters. Vikrant is a spineless coward who prefers to be a slave of his masters than standing up for himself. How is it possible for the viewer to enjoy watching the story of such a character?

As far as acting is concerned, Anchal Singh is the standout performer of the show, with a perfect portrayal of a beautiful seductress who thinks of herself as nothing less than a queen and believes that everyone around her exists to make her happy. Purva is basically a mentally unstable woman and her parents instead of getting her some medical help, are fulfilling every stupid fantasy of hers. Vikrant is in the middle of all this, who is not only helpless but also a coward, which makes it difficult for the viewer to empathize with him.

Golden played by Anant Joshi is another fantastic performance of the show. Anant Joshi never lets you feel that it's an act, he is one hundred percent immersed in his role. Actors like him make you believe in the authenticity of the world created by the writers and director. Brijendra Kala and Saurabh Shukla are actors of the highest quality, it's not possible for them to give a bad performance and as expected they have given an outstanding performance in the show.

Shweta Tripathi is a wonderful actress, and she has done a good job as is always expected from her but unfortunately she doesn't really have a lot to do in this show. In a massive ensemble of actors, where pretty much everyone has done a good job, Shweta almost got lost.

There was no need for the story to go on for eight episodes, let alone extend it into another season. That is one major drawback of this show. The pacing is extremely slow, the content is more irritating than engaging, and on top of that we don't get a conclusion, something we could have easily got to. Things happen in the show purely out of convenience, not out of logic. Some of the actions of characters come across as way too unrealistic and ultimately you are left wondering in frustration as to when will all this come to an end, but unfortunately you don't even get that. This wasn't a dark comedy, this was just a poorly made show.

2 hours movie made into a long senseless series... so many flaws and stupid mistakes with the main lead bearing the same expression in every episode... lol.

So many scenes stretched for no reason. Good script very poorly executed.

Could have been better with this story line
vikasher200715 January 2022
Story is refreshing from all other series but seemed overstretched, as if the director wanted to force season2.

It could been have been better and finished the complete story in one season.

No logic
kishorays21 January 2022
This has lot of good actors. Main character makes logic less plan all the time to kill his wife and no one notices it even when they are having load of resources to find anything they can. Villain is another joker. Netflix spend money to make nonsense series like this.

A Twisted And Gripping Tale of Power, Love, Revenge And Deceit. Anchal Singh As Purva Is A Show Stealer !!!
cs_rahul_prasad15 January 2022
All SRK fans and 90's movie buffs wouldn't have missed watching his anti-hero outings like Darr (1993) and Anjaam (1994), both of which were based on the obsession with love and the willingness to go to any length to obtain what you want. Similarly, the basic premise of 'Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein'-the title inspired by the iconic 90's hit song from the same genre film 'Baazigar'- is based on William Shakespear's Othello phrase "For she had eyes and chose me."

When Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein opens, something bad has already occurred: Vikrant Singh Chauhan (Tahir Raj Bhasin) is in a dreadful situation where goons are constantly firing at him, and he tells himself as a narrator that today is the day he dies. His own account of his past reveals what happened to him and how he ended up in this situation. Set in the fictional town of Onkara located somewhere in Uttar Pradesh, Vikrant, an engineering graduate is desperately waiting for a job offer letter from Bhilai. He fantasises about getting a simple job, buying a small house and a car, and living a simple life with his college sweetheart, Shikha Aggarwal (Shweta Tripathi Sharma). But life has something else destined for Vikrant, as Purva (Anchal Singh), the daughter of powerful and ruthless politician Akheraj Awasthi Vidrohi (Saurabh Shukla), has had an eye on him since childhood. What happens next and how money, power and women ruin a man's life, as well as the drastic measures he takes to reclaim it forms the crux of the story. Thus, begins an exhaustive battle between paisa, taaqat aur pyaar, and there's a lot more than what meets the eye.

After directing an engrossing crime fiction 'Undekhi', Sidharth Sengupta has returned with a well-crafted and intelligently scripted dark thriller, which he has co-written with Anahata Menon and Varun Badola. Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein packs a lot of action and reaction into eight episodes that are a little less than an hour. The screenplay creates a pressure cooker-like atmosphere in which Vikrant is stuck with Purva and his every move is being closely watched. Every episode of the web series has a different twist to it. By the end of the episode, the writers leave you thinking, and you quickly move on to the next episode, anticipating more trouble. Because of its editor Rajesh G Pandey's flawless cuts, the series never felt like it was dragging or going off the rails. While the narrative is grim and intense, Vikrant's fictional sequences of future prophecies and his childhood friend Golden (Anant Joshi) provide some comic relief. Varun Badola deserves credit for his snappy and witty dialogues.

The subplot of Vikrant's family believing in Akheraj as their God is interesting, especially his father Suryakant (Brijendra Kala), who works as an accountant at Akheraj's office and has blind faith in him. Initially, Vikrant had to deal with serious repercussions of their faith because he lacked the authority to say "No". Then, in the later episodes, Suryakant has a sudden change of heart and decides to help his son, which is both abrupt and unconvincing.

From the river ghats to dams and nearby surroundings of a small town, the cinematography by Murzy Pagdiwala adds authenticity to the plot. Additionally, the picturesque locations of Ladakh are beautifully captured and a breeze to watch. The background music by Shivam Sengupta and Anuj Danait complements the plot and enhances the effect. But it's the title track, a recreation of the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol dance number, 'Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein' by Anu Malik and Dev Kohli, which is incredibly hummable, that sticks with you throughout.

Apart from a crisp script, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein boasts of solid performances. Tahir Raj Bhasin is delightful as trapped Vikrant who is unable to escape. When he discovers that everything in his life is falling apart, including his true love, he makes the audience empathise and sympathise with his character's claustrophobic condition. Tahir's character arc is impressive, and he pulls it off like a pro.

Among the girls, Shweta Tripathi successfully manages to bring out the inner strength and vulnerability of her character, Shikha. Tahir and Shweta share great chemistry on screen, especially in the scenes when they're dating in college. Anchal Singh is impressive and intimidating as the unforgiving Purva, who will go to any lengths to marry Vikrant. Throughout the series, her actions speak louder than her words.

Saurabh Shukla's portrayal of a cutthroat politician, Akheraj, ensures that you despise him. He kills people without hesitation, and when it comes to Purva, the apple of his eye, he knows no bounds. Surya Sharma convincingly plays Dharmesh, Akheraj's dreadful henchman, whom he treats as if he is his own son. Surya has previously proven his versatility in comparable roles in web series such as 'Undekhi' and 'Hostages'. Arunoday Singh enters late in the story, yet he plays a significant role in turning the tables. Brijendra Kala, Sunita Rajwar, Hetal Gada, Anant Joshi, among the rest of the cast lend good support.

As producer-director-writer, Sidharth Sengupta presents a psychological drama that is interestingly filled with twists, turns, and thriller trappings. The title, as well as several interwoven stories, will undoubtedly conjure up images of SRK and his films, like the iconic 'palat palat' sequence from 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.' Having said that, if you enjoy pulpy Bollywood thrillers from the 90s, 'Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein' is a must-watch. Finally, it leaves you wanting more while also providing plenty of foreshadowing for the next season.

Mediocre
ummehaniamir16 January 2022
It started really well but not up to scratch. Cannot fault the acting. Could have done so much more with the characters. Did not deliver at the end. Same old story but something is better than nothing. At the end it leaves a feeling of wasted time. At least close the season properly. Reeks of immaturity in direction and movie making. Oh well .....

Morally awful but compelling viewing
queenofrock661 August 2022
As a westerner I was so drawn into the family drama and quest for love versus duty. The ruthlessness of power and status overpowers right and wrong. What 'seems' respectable is shallow social standing. It depicts the frailty of human emotions and how easy it can be to manipulate others to your needs. Purva is wickedly evil spoilt child accustomed to always getting her way. She has learned from her father that one's desires are always ok even at the expense of another's life.

Entertaining but unnecessarily lengthy at times
pritypoddar20 January 2022
It's a thriller with beautiful frames and few comic moments, best of which are brought by Anant Joshi who plays the protagonist Tahir Raj Bhasin's best friend.

The series is both innocent and gruesome in it's approach and at times the scenes appear unnecessarily lengthy.

Loopholes.....
preetamkumar-2316215 January 2022
Story is overall good but seems like it is inspired by Mirzapur somehow.. When brijendra kala speaks any gali it's more like ki woh bas yuhi kuch bhi bol rhe hn woh part totally bkwas sa lgta hn esa lgta hn ki series mein bas jaan bhujhke galiya ghusa rhe hn so can get more views but also it make series slow and irritating👎🏽 There are lot of loopholes also like when tahir have new phone and number how sikha called him or when sikha and tahir was at bus station when she was living toh us time pe photo click kisne kri or woh us time whaa ku nhi ayaa or uske alwa dolly shadi mein toh photo bhi bhez di thi phir unhe end time mein hi ye ku yaad ayaa ki ye konsi ladki hn and so on... Overall casting and story and background music is average hope so ki agle season mein galiyo se zyda content or loopholes pe focus krein then maybe season 2 acha ho ske 🙌🏼

Dumb series for dumb audience
coolhariom15 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story script had the power to create good series. But eventually it became a drag with dumb mistakes, shown from protagonist. Seemed like it was intentional to drag for 8 episodes.

Multiple scenes were unrealistic and dumb . And were there to just add up spice in story. Also there was no consistency in the plot, it was like making half pager answer to full 5 pager answer. And in the end series wrapped up w/o any closure!

How an accountant with 20+ years of job will not know the security cameras and will not play safe, when stealing so much money!

Hats off to the writers and the storyline. They will Leave you spellbound by the end of the season. Eagerly waiting for season 2. This needs to be in the must watch list of everyone who loves this genre. It seems out of logic at some points but overall it is a very well written and full of suspense series.

very bollywood style show, not much gruesome violence, some plot points are unconvincing, and thriller element could be better too, 7 is a good rating for it
desicowboysamurai17 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
(6.5/10):

very bollywood style show, doesnt have any nude or sex, not even a proper kiss is shown but still netflix warns you about it idk why but anyways.

My only main complaint are these, one being no gruesome violence is shown even tho it is implied, which is a huge downer, u can not show nudity or sex but gruesome violence had to be there like mirzapur.

Many plot points are unconvincing and over the top unconvincing i understand its an entertainment commercial show but it is its job to make a believe and that didnt happened, and because of this reason it made me feel like a low quality show infact it made me feel like its an korean tv show and thats not a compliment.

The best part of the show was the UP style dialogues especially from Golden, not looking forward for second season.

Missed opportunity
jonn-en15 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show has potential but makers should not have gotten greedy and produced an inconclusive season. Show starts at a point which looks like the end of story but when the first season ends you feel far off from that point (or was it just a dream, probably no!!). You just feel you have wasted close to 8 hours getting nowhere in the story.

The main character's characterisation is also not very convincing, at some point you feel he wants to get out but the very next he just goes with the flow. Takes him ages to come to a decision to take 'some' control of his life but you start feeling if it's even worth doing anything now as we have seen his degradation w/o any resistance whatsoever in the previous episodes and will any of what he's doing is even going to work. He just comes off as a common (not smart in anyway) man try to handle situations as it comes along and just lucky to be still alive.

On top of that the other storyline involving his love interest is also left open, so basically everything is just meant for next season, which feel like cheating when the entire season does not provide closure to any of main stories in the show.

If they can follow up the season with a part 2 in the next month or so I don't see much point watching this season.
