In developing the show, creators wanted to make a series revolving around a regular, working class family. Producers felt this would make the show more relatable to viewers and serve as a contrast to the types of families and characters portrayed in such shows as _Hannah Montana_ and Wizards of Waverly Place (2007).
While making the show Bridgit Mendler and Shane Harper weren't dating in real life until the 4th season.
The actors who play both of Teddy's parents have appeared on two separate episodes of the show The King of Queens (1998).
Bridgit Mendler was featured as a Recurring or Guest Character in other shows such as Wizards of Waverly Place (2007), and Jason Dolley prior to getting a Main Role in Good Luck Charlie (2010) had been in 3 DCOMs prior.
