The Winners of the Creative Arts Emmys Are Here

18 August 2014 8:16 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

So the big Emmys don't air until next Sunday night and at Moviefone we will have, of course, full coverage. But last night the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out, for the people that are largely responsible for making these shows that you absolutely love -- you know, the behind-the-scenes talent tasked with conceptualizing and realizing your favorite programs. Oh -- and some guest actor and actresses awards were handed out, so there's that too!

In the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category Uzo Aduba took home the prize for "Orange is the New Black." Since we are, very shamefully, one of a handful of Americans who hasn't seen a single second of "Orange in the New Black," this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, but we are very happy for her! (We promise, we'll watch soon.) For the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, the »

The first round of 2014 Emmy Awards were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Saturday (August 16) night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.  The ceremony, which precedes the Monday, August 25 Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, offered signs of hope for a number of drama and comedy hopefuls. Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black," for example, won Emmys for editing, series casting and for Uzo Aduba, who is considered a guest actress for the purposes of these awards. No other comedy series was able to build any other momentum going into next week's show, with "The Big Bang Bang Theory," "Nurse Jackie," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" grabbing isolated tech prizes and Jimmy Fallon winning the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for the second time in three years for his "Saturday Night Live" hosting duties. Ratings: AMC, Own, TLC Among Notable Cable Gainers in 2014

3 April 2014 11:49 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The quarterly ratings fortunes of cable networks often ride on a single show, and that was the case for the likes of AMC, A&E and Own during the first three months of the year.

AMC surged behind record ratings for “The Walking Dead,” and Own had its best showing to date thanks in large part to Tyler Perry soap “The Haves and the Have Nots.” On the other hand, the decline of “Duck Dynasty,” though still a top program, produced noticeable declines for A&E.

Overall according to Nielsen primetime estimates for the quarter (Dec. 30, 2013 through March 30, 2014), TBS prevailed in the key demos of adults 18-49, 25-54 and 18-34 but was down about 10% from last year; it had won a year ago in 18-49 and 18-34. The cable home to repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” also aired three of the quarter’s top 10 original cable comedies, led by »

Why don't we see Lgbt parents portrayed in children's films?

25 March 2014 4:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

With growing numbers of Lgbt parents around the world, isn't it time the likes of Disney or Pixar portray gay parents in kids' films as ordinarily as they portray heterosexual ones?

• Frozen lambasted as pro-gay propaganda by Christian pastor

I recently read a post on a Swedish parenting website from an irate mother complaining that, when she took her young son to see a children's film, an ad was shown featuring a gay couple telling each other: "I love you." Irate Mother says: "This is not something kids should be subjected to." I, on the other hand, am extremely grateful for the inclusive nature of Swedish advertising – thanks to it this boy now has some hope of growing up less bigoted than his mum. Sadly, however, he's unlikely to see any representations of Lgbt relationships in the children's movies he watches.

'Good Luck Charlie' finale: Was it a proper goodbye?

16 February 2014 9:30 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Disney's long-running sitcom, "Good Luck Charlie," came to an end Sunday (Feb. 16) after four seasons of video diaries and family antics. Did "Good Bye Charlie" give the show the sendoff it deserves?

As Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) prepares to leave home and go to Yale, she is trying to record one final "Good Luck Charlie" message with true wisdom. That is derailed by packing and the return of ex-boyfriend Spencer (Shane Harper).

Elsewhere in the show, Amy plans for a big audition at her morning show, Pj negotiates the intricacies of the food truck world, and Gabe mentors a young prankster in the ways of delinquency. Charlie, of course, looks cute and provides the pivotal Teddy-and-Spencer-get-back-together-sing-along motivation.

And then there's the final diary that ends it all:

"Just know that, as long as you've got us, you'll always have -- everybody say it -- good luck Charlie!"

Did this wrap up the series for you? »
