Syracuse's water story, A Tale of Two Lakes
gflick-195-99725421 February 2015
This is a superb short documentary about the two most important lakes to the city of Syracuse, NY. It demonstrates how short-sighted the politicians and industry leaders were in the early years of the city of Syracuse, polluting the lovely lake (Onondaga) adjacent to it. Then, when it became obvious that the lake had been near fatally polluted, city leaders looked elsewhere for a water source for the growing city. Their eyes settled on Skaneateles Lake, many miles southwest of the city. This time the city made sure to preserve the lake, ensuring the water quality would remain high.

Currently, Onondaga Lake is undergoing one of the largest environmental cleanup projects in our nation's history. It may turn out that the sad history of Onondaga Lake will be rewritten in the next few years.
