Monotonous and uneventful...
paul_haakonsen2 September 2022
Needless to say that I had never heard about this 2021 Nigerian comedy titled "Ponzi", as I stumbled upon it here in 2022. And believing in giving a movie that I haven't already seen a fair chance, of course I sat down to watch what writers Joshua Obayan and Toluwani Obayan had to offer.

"Ponzi" was a difficult movie to sit through, as the storyline was slow paced and sort of rather uneventful. So the movie felt prolonged and taking forever to go nowhere. And that hardly constitutes being entertaining in my book. So "Ponzi" fell short of providing me with entertainment. In fact, I didn't even endure the movie to the end, as I just simply found no enjoyment in the storyline at all.

The acting in the movie was actually fair enough, despite the fact that the storyline didn't provide me with entertainment or enjoyment. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble here, but there were some fair performances here and there.

I am sure that there is an audience out there for director Kayode Kasum's movie. I just happened not to be a part of that particular target audience. And this is not a movie that I will be returning to attempt to finish watching.

My rating of "Ponzi" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

An exaggerated satire on the never ending menace of ponzi schemes
faustinaokomayin7 July 2022
Ponzi is an interesting display of the mind of a guilible/ greedy person who still believes in get - rich quick schemes.

Even though the actors were typically stereotyped, the film manages to give us an interesting story that blends their characters well and delivers a good viewing experience.

The story also lacked sufficient conflict, especially since one of the characters seems to be knowledgeable about finances, investment and economics, the character even makes gives her narrative voice to the film but give her educated opinion about the scam in the film.

The story has a few loop holes and redundant characters that don't add up to the story alongside a few scenes that drag alot, mostly because of the exaggerated performances.

The end of the film was unrealistic the fact - that an international scammer ( wanted all around the world) could get caught in such a primitive way.

It's still an engaging and interesting watch.
