I've actually been rewatching Frasier last month or so and was almost done when I saw the promos for this new version. I've heard rumblings and grumblings and thought that it was actually happening, but didn't know that it would be happening October 2023.
I saw the 2 minute trailer...and saw a 20 or 30 minute promo for it.
And what I saw made me have very low expectations. I've seen enough things remade, that I know it just never works...yet continues to be attempted.
Shows work bc of a combination of things. Timing, actors, characters, writers, directors, culture, timing etc etc...and on top of that where I, the viewer, happen to be in my/their life. All of that needs to gel in order to make it the right show at the right time with the right people. Very hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice. Frasier limped along as a shell of it's former self the last 3 seasons...and that was withamy of the elements that worked. So now...time has passed and everything... EVERYTHING is different.
This COULD work.
But this writing, these actors, this acting, these stories...nope.
One supporting member is worse than the next. Nephew David is terrible. The son is awful. The...whatever she is...wide girlfriend...awful. The older friend. Nope.
The dean or whatever of Harvard. Holy mother of all that is holy.
This is a typical 21st century American sitcom. Garbage.
I plan on suffering through all of them just so I can say I watched them...but they will be, I'm sure, instantly forgettable.
Fingers crossed there are some redeeming scenes...but I doubt there will be any ..

This show worked bc of xyz. They have removed xyz.
This doesn't need to exist and will be forgotten before it is finished.
