The update schedule for Riddick, the third film to feature the character Vin Diesel originated in Pitch Black and developed further in The Chronicles of Riddick, has been accelerating. What was once an annual thing from Diesel and writer/director David Twohy has turned into a monthly info blast as pre-production accelerates and a real shoot date looms. What is that shoot date? We still don't know, but in his latest update Vin Diesel insists the R-rated film will be backed by Universal, and will shoot partially in Canada. Read his update in full below. Over the past year, Riddick himself, Vin Diesel, has taken to the Facebook airwaves to broadcast his thoughts on the upcoming sequel and hint at what to expect from the film. As recently as last week, Diesel was facing a major life crisis when it came to pushing the third film "Riddick" into production: would he sacrifice his paycheck to get this passion project made? The sci-fi trilogy rested on his shoulders.
Now, writer/director David Twohy has spoken up on his blog, stating, "The hurdles seem to be dropping. The final turn is being rounded. The finish line (actually a starting line) seems closer than ever."

Vin Diesel and writer/director David Twohy have been meeting to look at concept art for a third Riddick movie and discuss a potential shooting schedule, the actor revealed to his 24 million Facebook fans. On Tuesday, Diesel posted a message on his wall telling fans Twohy had good news — they could start filming this summer — but there was a catch. “n order for us to make a true R rated film, I must work for scale upfront. Vin Diesel has updated his followers on Facebook about the sequel to Chronicles of Riddick, reports ComingSoon.net. Diesel posted a video where he and director David Twohy were present. Twohy answered a question before running off, concerning whether Riddick will be a lot different in the latest installment than the others saying "The movie itself is going to be a lot like Pitch Black because of the money involved, right? Because we want to retain our R rating." Diesel added "Which is a big deal. We're committed to going R. Twohy continued saying "It will be a bit more tougher than Chronicles was but, a little more Pitch Black in that regard. We are going to be lean and we are going to do it quick and it's going to be a cool movie, I can tell you that." »
