Ryan Larkin was a Canadian award-winning animator who wound up a homeless alcoholic, begging for spare change on the streets of Montreal. Almost 25 years later, the man made an inspiring comeback, shaking his addictions and demons but then succumbed to lung cancer in 2007. This work is a posthumous work of art since he started this animated short but never got to finish it. His manager, Laurie Gordon, did that.
After a somber first half, in which Larkin illustrates some of his visions on the street as a beggar and a quick trip to heaven and hell, both of which he shows his total ignorance, of, things begin to get a little more fun to watch.
The short noticeably picks up, visually and mood-wise, when they begin the song "Do It For Me" by Chiwawa. Then you really see some terrific visuals as the story dramatically switches from a serious life-on-the-streets essay to a music video. It's quite a contrast!
