Mild Movie, Fun watch
31 March 2011 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This movie surprised me. Actually shocked and astounded me sounds better. Though its not because its fantastic, it was because it was good.

What you have here is a minimalist film that doesn't really play off as a big budget film but does very well with what it has.

First off, the issues you'll notice are these:

The acting is a little off and on, what you get is decent actors that work really well with one emotion but fall flat with something like crying (especially the lead female). The biggest example of this is the character that at first plays off as a frat boy, when he's in this mode he is just plain terrible. When he starts cracking a little throughout the movie from all the events that are occurring, he switches to a decent level of acting that really isn't that bad.

Onto our next issue: The CGI, though by no means terrible, is a bit middle ground. You see a plane most of the time in CGI and while it does look bad, it doesn't move nor seem to function fluently. Most of the time they show it to see how out of control the situation is and it mostly doesn't invoke any feeling of impending doom but more like they are just sort of floating.

The last issue is the story, its not bad but its not great. It plays off more as something you'd see in a Outer Limits or Twilight Zone episode. So don't go in expecting the best of the best.

Okay and as for the good? Well all I can say is that this movie is watchable and entertaining to enough of a level that I'd recommend it for maybe a afternoon watch on a Sunday afternoon. It doesn't have the gore you'd expect either, it actually focus's on the characters and actually (trying) to make them more fleshed out and their actions make sense.

So, all in all, I'd suggest it for a watch. Its mild, entertaining and not at all terrible.
