Drunk after a dinner date, precinct chief detective Daniel Salinger has a car accident, which allowed his service Beretta to be stolen. Moretta and Bryant reluctantly cover for him by searching rather then reporting it missing immediately. Their reward comes as this leads to discovering major plans from two criminal gangs and a godfather in a wheelchair who shamelessly abuses his privileges. As Cooper predicted, he and Ben, who proves himself adroit in self-defense, have a lunatic night due to 'good' citizens they would rather be able to arrest. A streaker is mistaken for a serial rapist. Written by KGF Vissers

One man's utter misfortune
17 January 2017 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

If the prior episode was about spotlighting one end of the LAPD (the detectives), 'Two Gangs' holds its focus primarily on one character while still giving the other players just enough material to keep from stagnating. Regina King, Tom Everett Scott, Michael Cudlitz and Ben McKenzie all have something to do, and they fit well into this kind of show. I think the characters are handled well, for the most part.

But it's a bad day for Sal (Michael McGrady), run off the road by gangbangers and finding his gun missing. You feel for the guy because his bacon really is on the line and he didn't do anything to deserve it. Between his integrity as a cop and the dedication of the men under his command, we get a clearer picture of this guy than ever before.

Solid writing all around.
