When Groucho Marx's long-running show "You Bet Your Life" was ending he filmed a pilot for a similar program in January, 1961 with the title "What Do You Want?". George Fenneman, Groucho's long-time announcer and co-star, continued in that role for the pilot episode. The idea for the new show was that people would sit with Groucho and discuss their desires in life and would try to win $1,000 by answering a question read to them by George Fenneman or they could choose not to answer and receive a consolation prize of $400.
