Stellar cast but lousy storyline

For a star studded cast this movie did not rise to the occasion. The cast was stellar but the story was disappointing. There were too many weak storylines, the most glaring being Lerato's one. The idea was good but the execution was appalling resulting in an unbelievable conclusion. What a waste of Idris's Sultan's talent.

The good part of this movie is the comedic element which was done well in some instances.

Bad Production

This movie is full of Star actors but the production is so bad. I had to have my remote with me to control the audio as it was sometimes super high...sometimes very low. I am disappointed. The acting is very lousy. We can do better South Africa...this movie should have not even been approved by Netflix SA.

Silly movie

Silliest movie I ever watched. Funniest part was the payback video. Aunty was the most convincing actor to be honest. The storyline needed a little more filling. The cast ensemble was great but the storyline didn't do anything to bring out their best acting. In my opinion.

Audio is horrible! And who wrote this cliche script?!

Don't waste your time. The Audio is horrendous...I don't understand how Netflix purchased this! The music is the only crisp audio you'll get...and let's not get into the mediocre writing! How did they invest in great actors and beautiful locations and forget to get decent writers?!

Good concept but from the sound engineering to the poor story telling this was really a mess, Enhle looked and is too old to play that part and was mostly embarrassing, Amanda du-Pont is a good actress she shouldn't have accepted this role it was beneath her, The Aunt was good in closing this is just a horrible movie and a waste of funds and connection, making Movies and story telling from Africa a lame joke.

The Best African Mixed stars Movie

The acting in here was amazing, the comedy maintained most scenes matched with the actors. In my opinion this s the best African movie Idris Sultan the best in Tanzania. All those under rating this movie do not really understand what they are just typing Scums. Nice movie keep it Up .

Honestly I'm only watching this because it's proudly SA. The cast was great. They had a good idea with the storyline but the production needed more effort. There's too many bits and pieces I couldn't focus. But I'm always down for South African films. Try harder next time guys we believe in you.

Zero Star

I was so looking forward to watching this star casted movie but I was deeply disappointed after watching it! The script was horrid, the sound was poor and the director did an equally poor job in directing it - with either over acting or under acting.

Really, a waste of talent.

Right, well I had no idea what I was in for here, as I sat down to watch the 2021 movie titled "Slay", aside from it being labelled as a comedy. And the fact that I hadn't already seen the movie was enough to make me give the movie a chance.

Turns out that I was not in for a comedy. Not even by a long shot. There was absolutely nothing funny here, unless you consider being unable to comprehend the strange and heavy accent on the spoken English as being funny. Seriously, I had to turn on the English subtitles in order to fully understand the dialogue.

I have no idea what writers Sasa Nqabeni and Adze Ugah were trying to portray or convey here with the storyline they conjured up for "Slay". But it surely wasn't something that provided me with any level of entertainment. And truth be told, I gave up on the movie not even halfway through. And I am sort of amazed that two writers could collectively manage to write such a boring script and topping it off with characters that were so bland that you don't know where one character ended and the next began.

The acting in the movie was shoddy and dubious, and definitely reeked to high Heaven of it being an amateurish production.

"Slay" is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. And this is by no means a movie that I will be returning to at a later time to finish watching, as I simply have zero interest in the storyline or the characters.

My rating of director Adze Ugah's 2021 movie "Slay" lands on a generous two out of ten stars.

What waste of time!! If there was half a star that's what I'd give. A waste of talent. A waste of an opportunity to put into good use all these great actors of our continent, a beautiful thing would have come out of this if someone had bothered to think creatively beyond just making money.

Thank you mam'Lilian for making me laugh in the end, this one star is for you.

Poor script

I'll advice any intending watcher not to bother. Poor script, mediocre performance from the actors and we didn't even get to see any character development. It was just from one scene to another. No substance whatsoever.

I could see that they intended for it to be funny but it wasn't working for me.

Actually worst movie i have ever seen in a while, Poor script, poor acting, So boring, terrible characters and story line.

To understand how bad this is you need to understand that i don't ever write reviews about movies and this is my first time, i created an IMDb account just to rate this movie for how bad it is, i don't understand how such a horrific story line could be that long, i mean you know that feeling that sometimes you start watching a movie, it starts out with not so much action but you keep waiting for everything to hit together, here you just wait and get disappointed. I know it's not really a review but if somebody stumbles upon this i wish him nothing but the best, and the best is not to watch this, the amount of boringness will haunt your life for eternity.

I wish to know who was the location sound recordist.... Its either he/She got Sabotaged or something May we see the end credit list. We can't degrade SA film industry this way unless it's its cheap Labour since guys with proper knowledge are not hired dure to rates... This is very embarrassing with such sound sync problem and post ADR not on par.
