Decent short-film until the ending

When people hear about Up in the Air from 2009, 99,9% will most likely think about the film starring George Clooney, Anna Kendrick and Vera Farmiga. And I'm pretty certain, many of the people who rated this short film were wrongly off the assumption this was the one by Jason Reitman, which is by the way among my very favorites of the year.

Well, it is not. This one is only slightly longer than twelve minutes and deals with a US Navy pilot who gets overwhelmed by surprise when his wife suddenly reappears after disappearing many years earlier. As much as this event has brought him closer to the girls, it totally alienated them from their mother. It's a decent, though not really innovative, tale about remorse and forgiveness with a nice morale to the story and I'd recommend it if it wasn't for the ending which I really did not like at all. It felt completely over the top for me and I wish they'd have find a less spectacular way of the two finally bonding again. Oh well. It's not totally bad though, but it really dragged down the whole experience for me. With another ending, my rating may have been sixish.
