33 Times You Wanted Whatever Jennifer Lawrence Was Having

15 August 2017 2:38 PM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

In the seven years since Jennifer Lawrence's breakout role in 2010's Winter's Bone, the actress has established herself as the ultimate onscreen badass and Hollywood's most desirable Bff, the combination of which makes her box office and newsstand gold. Even better, her infectious personality isn't a PR product - after all, she was bringing on the Lol-worthy moments way before she got super famous, and she clearly lacks the filter necessary to emulate anyone else's path to fame. Case in point: her candid interview with Vanity Fair about that nude-photo hacking incident in November 2014, or the way she spoke at length to Glamour about America's misconceptions of her. Let's look back at all the times we could not hide our admiration for the daring A-lister. RelatedJennifer Lawrence's Best Candid Quotes »

Looking for a film to watch, that you might not have considered before? Try some of these...

Sometimes, we figure, you come to a site like this just to find out about a film you didn’t know about. That you want recommendations of movies that you might not otherwise have uncovered. This list, then, has no theme, save that the films on it are really good, and didn’t get much of an audience first time around. That, or they seem to have been forgotten. It’s a real mix, but hopefully, there’s something on here that appeals..

The Brady Bunch Movie

The Brady Bunch films never really seemed to do much business in the UK, and that’s a real pity. No foreknowledge of the series is required, and the first movie takes the Brady film and transplants them into 1990s America, with no »

Prime for May - Screengrab Roulette

1 May 2017 12:00 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

A new month, a smattering of titles freshly available to stream for free at home, provided you have certain subscriptions. Let's play screengrab roulette. The following images are what came up (no cheating!) when I blind "scrolled" these newly streaming films on Amazon Prime. I only allow myself a second spin if the image is a complete blur or contains something really upsetting/violent [Complete list of titles is after the jump]

All extras, keep eating the oysters or you will be shot and killed!

Cecil B DeMented (2000)

This is the John Waters movie with the biggest divide for me between how much I love the concept (a guerilla filmmaking unit kidnapping an A list actress and forcing her to star in their film) and what I think of the actual movie. But, damn, Alicia Witt was on comic fire in this movie as "Cherish". It's clear that Melanie Griffith who headlines had seen Serial Mom (1994) and thought 'I could do that! »

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Is a Riveting, Relevant, and Political Drama, So Why Won’t the Creators Say So?

22 April 2017 6:22 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Last night, Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. A frightening and incredibly gripping piece of visual storytelling from cinematographer-turned-director Reed Morano, it stands as a remarkable piece of art that speaks to atrocities committed against women around the world and throughout history.

While writer and executive producer Bruce Miller began developing the 33-year-old novel before the rise of Donald Trump, the story of women who have been stripped of all agency to exist solely as breeding vessels for the patriarchy seems all too prescient in a 2017 when immigrants are being separated from their children, facts are “alternative,” and women are losing access to healthcare at the hands of a president who’s admitted sexual assault on audiotape.

As IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller noted in her grade-a review:

“Could ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ really happen?” isn’t the question anymore. »
