- Batwoman is forced to team up with Alice to hunt down the new Killer Croc. Meanwhile, Ryan meets her birth mother.
- When a new incarnation of Gotham's swamp slumming Killer Croc surfaces and starts racking up a body count, the inaugural team-up of Batwoman and Alice is put to the test. But Alice isn't the only unwanted intrusion into Ryan's life when Jada Jet shows up at Wayne Enterprises, insisting on meeting the company's new CEO. Luke and Mary's relationship is strained under the weight of a secret Luke is keeping, while Sophie finds herself becoming part of Ryan's inner circle.—The CW
- Two college students sneak into a closed university pool with beers, and the girl shoves the boy, Derek, in, strips, and jumps in after him. When she comes up, she discovers Derek her boyfriend is gone and assumes he's holding his breath. He finally comes up, in the teeth of something below. It drags him around the water and pulls him out, and blood spreads in the water. The girl swims for the side and starts to crawl out, but the thing that attacked Derek grabs her leg and pulls her back into the pool.
The next day, Alice is remanded into supervised custody, in return for her cooperation with the cases. If Alice harms or attempts to harm anyone, or violates any laws, the release will be rescinded. Renee tells Alice the conditions of her release, and a tracking bracelet is put on Alice's ankle. Ryan shows up at Alice's release and asks why Renee thinks any of it is going to stick. Renee tells Ryan that she's responsible for everything Alice does, and if Alice crosses the line then Batwoman will be "retired" by the GCPD. Ryan isn't thrilled with the arrangement, but Renee says that another one of the people using Batman's missing trophies is racking up a body count.
At the pool, the police are securing the crime scene while Dana DeWitt reports that two students are missing and presumed dead. Blood and not much else was found except for claw marks on the wall, reminiscent of Killer Croc, a Batman villain from 20 years ago.
Ryan, Luke, and Mary are watching the newscast from the Batcave. After it's over, Luke brings up the file on the original Killer Croc: wrestler Waylen Jones who suffered from an unidentified infection that caused his skin to grow scales. Other abnormalities followed. Bruce took pity on Jones and had WayneTech Labs try to create a cure for Jones' infection. They never found it, and the GCPC dropped a truckload of thermites on the sewer juncture where he lurked and ran. The tooth that was taken from Batman's trophies was all that was left.
Ryan wonders how a new Killer Croc could have grown from a tooth, and Mary suggests that the infection on the tooth carried the infection and contaminated the person who found the tooth. Alice is with them, and wonders why there's a tree in the Batcave. Ryan talks to Luke and Mary in private, and Alice is handcuffed to the railing.
Once they're alone, Ryan says that she'll need Batwing and asks Luke if he's figured out why it's malfunctioning. He admits that he hasn't figured it out, and Ryan tells him and Mary to work on it. Sophie comes in with the forensic report from the pool attack, and notes that the new Croc's drool contains a paralytic that lets him paralyze his victims and feed on them at his leisure. Mary warns that she isn't good with dealing with reptiles. Ryan suggests that they consult with Alice.
A helicopter flies up to the building's landing pad, and Luke confirms that a landing request has been confirmed for the CEO of Jeturian Industries: Jada Jet. Jada is insisting on meeting with the Wayne CEO, and Luke tells Ryan that she's the acting CEO. Mary goes to pick out some clothes for Ryan, and Luke goes to do more checking on Jada. Once they're alone, Sophie tells Ryan that Jada is her birth mother and figures that Jada knows.
Sophie tells Ryan that Jeturian Industries specialized in microtechnology, and Jada took control after her father's death and doubled its income. Once everything is ready Jada comes into the office to meet with Ryan. Ryan greets her, and Jada figures that Ryan does all the real world management while Bruce is off yachting. Jada says that Bruce poached one of her most valuable employees, and says that she's there to address a new wound. She says that someone hacked Jeturian's server, and they trace it back to Wayne Enterprises. Ryan claims to have no idea what Jada is turning about, and figures that Jada doesn't have any proof.
Ryan asks Jada why she's there, and Jada says that she believes warning are best given directly, and she'll only give one. She tells Ryan to stay out of her business, and says that Ryan saying she knew nothing about it was not Ryan's best performance.
In the Batcave, Mary and Luke examine the Batsuit and Luke has Lucius speak to Mary from the suit. Luke says that the suit's failsafe kicked in and shut down the suit, and Mary reads the suits diagnostics. She figures that the suit thought Luke was injured, and Luke explains that prompted a shutdown. He figures that Lucius was working on the suit's glitches, and Mary suggests that they make sure Luke isn't injured first.
Alice gets over to the Batcomputer and does a web search on how to disable an ankle tracking bracelet. It shuts her out, and Ryan returns and Alice admits that she saw Jada land on the roof and knows who she is. Alife taunts Ryan about Jada's motherhood, and Ryan says that they're not doing it. Undeterred, Alice says that she had some ideas about how Croc picks his victim. She chose her first victim because they were easy pickings, and Ryan figures the pool wasn't Croc's first attack because he wouldn't have gone after two targets. Alice has already used the computers to find missing persons that were last seen at the East River shore, two miles from the pool.
A family picnicking at the East River Park, and a young Whitney Hutchinson kicks her soccer ball into the woods. She goes after it and enters the woods, and finds the ball. It's been bitten into and deflated, and there's drool on it. Whitney looks around but sees nothing, and then something grabs her from behind.
That night, Batwoman and Alice enter the park and Mary directs them to the place where Whitney's mother made a 911 call reporting her daughter missing. They find drag marks but no blood, and saliva all over the ball. Alice figures Croc has taken Whitney to feed later, and Batwoman says that they need to find Croc's feeding spot before he consumes Whitney. Alice finds some shed skin on a tree nearby and tells Batwoman that Croc is a "growing boy".
Whitney wakes up in a sewer surrounded by paralyzed victims. Her legs are partially paralyzed, but she manages to stand up and drag herself away.
As they search the forest following the trail Croc left, Alice asks Batwoman about how her birth mother was. Batwoman wonders why Alice cares, and Alice says that since he brought them together, she deserves to know how her efforts paid off. Batwoman tells Alice that Jada was masterful, but she doesn't want Jada in her life and doesn't need her.
Alice spots a manhole cover and Batwoman tells her to go first. When Batwoman dismisses Alice's expressed concern for Whitney, Alice angrily replies that Batwoman isn't the only one with abandonment issues, and she won't give up on the girl like people gave up on her. Alice goes down into the sewer and find car carcasses strung up. Alice figures that it's bait. A man steps out of the shadows and says that Croc isn't a monster, but his son.
Luke takes off his shirt, and an impressed Mary tells him that he's looking fit. She examines him and finds his heart racing as she moves her hand across his shirt. When Mary asks if he's okay, Luke says that her hands are cold and he's ticklish. Mary says that he's fine and can put his shirt back on... if he wants. Luke does so, and they figure it must be a problem with the suit. He tells Mary that he'll override the failsafe, figuring that it's being overprotective.
The man, Mason, says that his son Steven isn't a killer unlike Alice. He wonders why Batwoman and Alice are working together, and Batwoman tells Mason that they want to help his son and he should tell them what happened to Steven. Just before Steven went to college, they went fishing, Steven captured a fish, and when they cut it open they found the tooth inside. Steven turned it into a necklace, but cut himself on the tooth and the tooth got infected. The teenager started changing, growing scaly skin, and doctors couldn't help him. Then the appetite took over, and Mason ties Steven up. He was too strong and broke free, and now Mason is trying to capture his son.
Batwoman says that they have to rescue Whitney first, and Alice notes that Steven won't agree to being locked up again. Mason takes out an electric prod and uses it on Batwoman, then draws a gun on Alice and says that he's not going to let them hurt Steven. He jams the prod into the water, shocking Batwoman as she lies in it.
In the Batcaver, Sophie detects a power spike in the Batsuit and tries to reach her on the comms. Mason continues shocking her, saying that he's not going to let them hurt Steven or put him in a cage and treat him like a lab animal. He says that he's going to do whatever he needs to do to keep Steve safe.
Steve, the new Croc, charges out of the shadows, grabs Mason, and drags him into the shadows. Alice picks up the prod and uses it to break the bracelet, and takes off during a side tunnel.
Mary and Luke join Sophie as Batwoman calls in. She tells them what happened and says that she can't hunt Alice down and save Whitney. Luke says that he'll hunt down Alice, and he and Mary both lie and says that the Batwing suit is fixed. Sophie figures Alice is heading for a nearby depot to steal a truck.
Alice makes her way through the sewers, but hears Whitney yelling for help. Rather than escape, Alice rolls her eyes and finds the girl laying in a tunnel. She tells Whitney that she's going to walk, and they hear Croc down the tunnel, coming their way. Alice starts to abandon Whitney, but Whitney begs for help and Alice goes back and tells Whitney that no one is going to save her but herself, and the sooner she learns that the better. With that, Alice runs off.
Batwoman goes through the tunnels looking for Croc, calling to him that she just wants to help him and so does Mason. She says that Steven is lucky to have a parent who would do anything to protect him, and never give up She finds Mason's body and figures that there's no reasoning with Croc.
An assistant tell Renee that they lost the signal from Alice's tracking monitor. Renee figures Alice could be anywhere.
Alice emerges from the sewers at the depot, and Batwing drops down behind her. She attacks him and they fight. Luke tells Mary over the comms that there's no problem with the suit yet. Alice pins Batwing against a truck with the prod, and he tells her that they're on the same team whether she likes it or not. Batwing hits her with an injector, then tells her that he injected a thousand nanobots into her and they're sending out tracking beacons to satellites. Alice realizes that she has no choice but to rejoin the team.
Whitney crawls down the tunnel, and Croc closes in on her from behind. As she screams, Batwoman leaps onto Croc's back. He slams her against the wall and then throws her into the water. Batwoman attacks him with her batons, and the two fight. Batwoman manages to pin Croc to a wall with a net gun, then hugs Whitney and tells her that she's got her.
As Batwoman takes Whitney out of the sewers, the police are waiting. Whitney's mother goes to her daughter, then smiles over at Batwoman in thanks. Renee arrives and congratulates Batwoman, but points out that Alice isn't there. Batwoman points out that Alice is nearby, waiting at Renee's car, and Batwoman says that Alice should be going back to Arkham and they found a better way to track Alice than the bracelet.
The next morning, Vesper reports that Batwoman defeated Croc and he's been taken to Arkham.
Alice is taken back to her cell at Arkham.
Ryan is on the balcony outside her office. Sophie joins her and Ryan says that she felt better when she didn't know Jada was her mother, and it's nobody's fault except Jada's. Ryan wonders why Jada paid a doctor $2 million to cover up Ryan's birth. Sophie tells Ryan that Ryan didn't know what Jada's life or options were, but Jada can give her the answers. Ryan doesn't know if she wants the answers, and Sophie says that she knows what's it's like to be a daughter who wants a hug from her mother. Crying, Ryan wonders if Jada might not want her, and Sophie tells her that it will be Jada's loss, not Ryan's.
In the Batcave, Luke hangs the Batwing suit up and discovers that the Lucius AI won't talk. Mary comes up and suggests Lucius isn't talking to Luke because he turned off the failsafe. She then tells Luke that the suit identified the site of the injury to where Luke was shot. Thanks to the Desert Rose, he doesn't have a physical scar, but the suit was interpreting as physical pain is actually psychological pain. Luke doesn't believe it, and Mary points out that just because his body is healed doesn't mean he is.
Renee examines the vine from Poison Ivy, and realizes the only way to confirm its providence is to open the case it's in. She opens the case and pours some water on the vine, and nothing happens meaning that it's not the real one. Renee tells her assistant that she knew it was a fake because she's seen the real one up close and if the real thing is still out there, god help them.
Jada is in her office, and Ryan barges in past the security guard. After dismissing the guard, Jada asks Ryan if they agreed Ryan would stay out of her business. Ryan tells her that it's personal, and she's Jada's daughter.
