The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I movie review: image manipulation

13 November 2014 5:44 AM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

One of the best Sf series ever deepens its critique of the power of propaganda in ways complicated, intriguingly contradictory, and a little bit horrifying. I’m “biast” (pro): big Sf geek; love the book series; love Jennifer Lawrence (and much of the rest of the cast); crave female-centered stories

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have read the source material (and I love it)

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Don’t tell Hollywood I said this, but chopping the final novel of the Hunger Games trilogy into two films might be the best thing that could have happened to this franchise. I mean, it didn’t work for Harry Potter — the first Deathly Hallows film was terrible — and Peter Jackson is already two-thirds of the way (with the final third almost upon us) toward demonstrating that turning the brief Hobbit book into three »

Two More Journey To The Center Of The Earth Films in Development

16 August 2014 6:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Dwayne Johnson is set to reprise his role in two more Journey to the Center of the Earth sequels being developed over at New Line Cinema. Parts three and four of the family adventure franchise are currently being scripted by The Conjuring writers Chad and Carey Hayes. Regardless of how much I liked their horror movie, I'm still not going to see either of these Journey movies. The last movie that came out in the series was Journey 2: The Mysterious Island back in 2012.

There are no story details, but Johnson played a Navy code breaker in the previous story. THR reports that Josh Hutcherson is expected to return as well, and that the two films could be shot back-to-back.

The Hayes brother also worked with New Line and Johnson on their upcoming film San Andreas, which is the earthquake disaster movie that they just wrapped. The production company obviously likes working with these writers, »

Dwayne Johnson to Return for ‘Journey 3′ and ‘Journey 4′

15 August 2014 8:43 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The Rock’s upcoming projects include Fast & Furious 7 and some as-yet unspecified DC superhero movie (we’re pretty sure we know what it is), but he’s also got it covered in the family-friendly movie department. No, that doesn’t mean another Tooth Fairy movie starring Dwayne Johnson; it does, apparently, mean we’ll be getting two new installments in the Journey series, which added Johnson to the mix in the punny titled second installment, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

New Line and Walden have had Johnson attached to Journey 3 for some two years now, but this is the first we’ve heard of Journey 4 also being in the works. THR says the plan, schedule-permitting, is to shoot ...

Dwayne Johnson Set For Journey 3 And 4

15 August 2014 7:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It would seem the big screen just cannot get enough of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson these days, much to the delight of his growing army of fans. Aside from his recurring role in the Fast And Furious franchise, the current release of Hercules, and the long-running, unconfirmed rumour of his future casting as superhero Shazam, Johnson is now confirmed as returning to the Journey franchise.

The family favourite fantasy-adventure film series began in 2008 with Journey To The Center Of The Earth, starring Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson. The second instalment – Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – arrived in 2012, with Dwayne Johnson replacing Brendan Fraser in the lead role, alongside the returning Josh Hutcherson. Both films were box office hits, despite the second film receiving relatively negative reviews, which makes today’s sequel confirmations more of an inevitability than a surprise.

The difference with the next two franchise entries will be the writing team. »

The Rock Making Two More Journey To The Center Of The Earth Sequels

14 August 2014 9:21 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Warner Bros. seems pretty serious about being in the Dwayne Johnson business. The rumors continue to circulate that he's getting involved in the world of DC with Shazam, but he's already attached to a WB franchise. A couple of years ago, he assumed the lead role in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, bogarting the franchise from Brendan Fraser. Now the studio's interested in making another Journey, but they're going to have to adjust course: it looks like it's going to be Two more Journeys. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Chad and Cary Hayes have been hired to write the third and fourth installments in the Journey series. The Hayes siblings recently earned their reputation from penning The Conjuring. Surely Johnson noticed, as he is starring in their most recent script, San Andreas 3D. The hiring of the Hayes siblings suggests an effort to appeal to Johnson more directly, particularly »

Rock Returns For Two More "Journey" Films

14 August 2014 7:08 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

New Line Cinema has hired "The Conjuring" scribes Chad and Carey Hayes to pen a third and fourth film in its 3D "Journey" franchise.

Starting in 2008 with "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D," the film scored a sequel in 2012 with "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" which saw Dwayne Johnson take over for Brendan Fraser as the adult male lead. Johnson is expected to return for both the new sequels.

The Hayes became known for penning numerous films for Dark Castle including "House of Wax," "The Reaping" and "Whiteout" before hitting it big with "The Conjuring". They're returning to pen that film's upcoming sequel, and also wrote Johnson's in production earthquake disaster thriller "San Andreas".

The Hayes will take over for previously attached screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, and are expected to "take the project in a different direction than what had been in development before."

Dwayne Johnson Still Attached to Make Two More 'Journey' Sequels

14 August 2014 6:27 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Over two years ago, just after Journey 2: The Mysterious Island hit theaters, Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson were set to return in a third film, with director Brad Peyton and writers Mark and Brian Gunn all back in the same capacity as well. However, it sounds like the direction of the franchise has changed a bit as New Line has just hired Chad & Cary Hayes, the writers behind The Conjuring, to script not just Journey 3, but also Journey 4, both of which Johnson is already attached to lead. As for Hutcherson, THR says the actor isn't attached yet, but as the only star of both the previous films, he's expected to return. Honestly, these films are just silly, childish, adventure fun, but mostly for kids, like theme park rides without the moving seats and carts. But Johnson has become a big star even in the past two years since Journey »

The Rock Coming Back for 'Journey 3' & '4' with 'Conjuring' Scribes Penning the Script

In 2008 it was Brendan Fraser leading the charge in New Line's Journey to the Center of the Earth, four years later Dwayne Johnson took over in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and while domestic returns only showed a slight uptick, internationally the sequel made $90 million more than the original. However, that didn't seem like enough for New Line to continue the franchise... until now. The Hollywood Reporter brings word The Conjuring screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes have been hired to write Journey 3 and 4 with Johnson expected to return for both along with Josh Hutcherson whose starred in both installments so far. There is no specific word on which direction the plot will go, but the THR article says the screenwriting brothers will take "the project in a different direction", whatever that could mean. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Signs up for Two More Journey Movies with The Conjuring Writers

14 August 2014 4:04 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Journey to the Center of the Earth was released in 2008 and starred Brendan Fraser, but it was WWE Superstar turned Hollywood’s highest grossing actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who took over the franchise in 2012. The sequel was called Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and also starred Michael Caine.

New Line are now moving ahead with third and fourth instalments in the franchise, with The Rock attached to star in both. Chad and Carey Hayes, the brothers who wrote hit horror movie The Conjuring for the same studio, will pen the scripts for both of these new Journey movies, though there’s no word on a director.

There are also no plot details available as of right now, but the Hayes brothers replace Brian and Mark Gunn (who were hired back in 2012 to write Journey 3), so it appears as if they’ll take the franchise in a new direction.

Film Review: ‘A’ for Effort, ‘C’ for Execution in Dwayne Johnson’s Unmemorable ‘Hercules’

26 July 2014 5:47 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – I empathize with Dwayne Johnson and simultaneously don’t. Most people never get rich and famous once, let alone twice. Sure, it’s hard to re-brand people from the wrestling superstar you once were into the dramatic action star you’re trying to become, but your past is forever immortal.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Like Jackie Chan wants to be viewed as a dramatic actor instead of a funny karate man, so too does Dwayne Johnson want to drop his wrestling image as The Rock and be taken seriously as a real actor. The problem is he’s all over the place. It’s hard to be Hercules when you’re being remembered as campy in films like “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” and the upcoming “Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon”.

This isn’t having actor’s range. Having real range is Charlize Theron successfully branching out with a challenging role in “Monster. »

Box Office: Lucy Is More Powerful Than Hercules

26 July 2014 1:51 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Based on Friday's North American box office numbers, Universal Pictures' Lucy is set to earn between $42M to $44M in its opening weekend. The sci-fi actioner stars Scarlett Johansson ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") and was directed by Luc Besson ("Léon: The Professional"). This will be the best opening weekend for a film starring Scarlett Johansson that wasn't produced by Marvel Studios. It will also be the best opening weekend for a film directed by Luc Besson. His previous best was $17M for The Fifth Element. However, the film was not well received by audiences as they only gave it a 'C+' CinemaScore. Paramount and MGM's Hercules will finish in second with $28M to $30M. It stars Dwayne Johnson in the title role. If the numbers stay about the same this will be the 8th best opening for a movie starring The Rock, just ahead of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island »
