Paramount & MGM Begin Production on Hercules

10 June 2013 12:51 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Founded in 2007, Radical Studios  is a multimedia company that incubated comic books for exploitation in other forms. Among their earliest releases was Hercules, boasting a Steranko cover, and it came with high production values and a bit of a buzz., The character returned for a second miniseries in and this interpretation captured Hollywood’s fancy. After years in development, production on the movie adaptation began today. Thew film enters a crowded summer 2014, especially for super-hero films, coming after Captain America: The Winter Solider and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and just before X-Men: Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy (raising the question whether or not four Marvel Universe films in five months will reach the saturation point).

Here’s the formal release:

Brett Ratner’s ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’ Begins Filming!

10 June 2013 12:19 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Brett Ratner’s down to Earth Hercules adaptation, starring Dwayne Johnson, has started principal photography. The film is based on the graphic novel ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’, and explores the man behind the myth, in a similar way to 2004′s King Arthur, removing all talk of magic and gods. See below for the complete press release.

I like the idea of removing magic from magical stories, but it can also just be a bit of a gimmick as well as showing the story as being pretty boring. What next? The legend of St. George where he slays, not a dragon, but a gecko? Or perhaps we’ll see Harry Potter as a wizard…a Maths wizard that is!

Hercules: The Thracian Wars is released 25th July 2014. It stars Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, and Rebecca Ferguson.

One month on: director Ben Gregor on All Stars' release

Interview Simon Brew 31 May 2013 - 05:49

Ever wanted an interview where a director talked about the reaction to their film a month after release? Here's Ben Gregor on All Stars...

It's our intention at Den Of Geek to support, wherever we can, British films. That's why we covered the release of Ben Gregor's All Stars this time last month, a family-centric dance movie that, truthfully, we didn't rate particularly highly. Our review is here.

And yet, in spite of getting some critical attacks, the film has found space to become a solid hit. Furthermore, its director, a chatty and lovely man by the name of Ben Gregor, actually wrote back to one critic- Christopher Tookey of the Daily Mail - taking issue with some of the attacks in that paper's review.

One of the interviews I've personally most enjoyed doing was chatting to Peter Ramsey, the director of DreamWorks' Rise Of The Guardians, »

Dwayne Johnson Makes Every Movie Better, And Here's The Proof

29 May 2013 11:56 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From Next Movie

For the past few years, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has made a hobby of joining a movie franchise already in progress and making it way better. "The Mummy Returns" may have been a rocky start to The Rock's movie saving, but the power of "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," and the "Fast & Furious" series cannot be denied.

If you needed any further proof of The Rock's ability to instantly improve any movie, the folks over at Next Movie have edited him into classic movies just to make that point. Now you can see the former professional wrestler in films like "E.T.," "Casablanca," and, of course, "The Rock."

Check it out in the video above!

Which Actor Turned Down Mark Wahlberg's Role in Transformers 4?

27 April 2013 4:22 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Before it was officially announced, there were plenty of rumors that Mark Wahlberg was cast in "Transformers 4." Michael Bay eventually confirmed the news, stating that he was convinced that Wahlberg was the right person for the job after working together on "Pain and Gain." A bit later, Bay revealed that it was Wahlberg who asked him to be in the movie, because he wanted to make something that his kids could watch and be proud of. And now comes word there's a reason why Wahlberg had to approach Bay about the role. That reason is that Bay wanted another "Pain and Gain" actor. "Michael Bay offered me 'Transformers 4,' but I was unavailable due to 'Hercules,'" Dwayne Johnson wrote on Twitter on Friday. "Then Wahlberg was offered the role." It's not surprising that Bay first wanted Johnson, since the actor is often brought on to give new »

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Was Offered Mark Wahlberg's Role In Transformers 4

26 April 2013 2:18 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been involved with quite a few franchises/tentpoles in the past, having starred in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Fast Five (and this summer's Fast & Furious 6), and next year's Hercules. However, what would it have been like to see the wrestler-turned-actor tackle a Transformers movie? While it has been suggested in the past, Johnson answered that very question in today's "Rock Talk" Q&A session on Twitter. He revealed that his Pain & Gain director Michael Bay initially offered him the lead role in Transformers 4, but had to turn it down due to his filming Hercules this summer. Michael Bay offered me Transformers, but I was unavailable due to Hercules. Then Wahlberg was offered the role. #RockTalk @nadydi— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) April 26, 2013 As we all know, Mark Wahlberg (who also worked with Johnson on Pain & Gain, which is in »

'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' surpasses 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' at the box-office

Just call Dwayne Johnson "Franchise Viagra." After previously giving a box-office boost to both the "Fast & Furious" and "Journey" franchises ("Fast Five" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" far out-grossed their predecessors worldwide), Johnson has worked a similar kind of magic on the "G.I. Joe" series, as "Retaliation" has now officially bested "The Rise of Cobra" at the box-office with over a global take of over $320 million - a significant jump over the latter's $302 million (though it should be noted that unlike "Retaliation," "Cobra" did not enjoy the benefit of those 3D surcharges). Warner Bros. Once Courted Will Smith To Star In Lobo

18 April 2013 9:54 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Here's a very, very interesting "what if?" scenario. In their article reporting the actor's negotiations to star in Warner Bros.' Focus, The Hollywood Reporter adds a small note about the studio's desire to reteam with Will Smith, who starred in 2007's I Am Legend. The site says that WB has courted Smith (who will next be seen in June 7th's After Earth) for several projects, and one of these was none other than Lobo, one of several DC Comics adaptations said to be in development. Presumably, Smith was being targeted to play the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter before Dwayne Johnson (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) entered talks to take on the role. Despite being interested in the project (which would've seen his reteaming with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton), "The Rock" more recently stated that the film "just went away", suggesting that Lobo is no longer in active development. »

Dwayne Johnson talks G.I. Joe 3

17 April 2013 1:06 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Dwayne Johnson is certainly starting to develop a knack for reinvigorating franchises; three of his last four movies have seen him joining the cast at the sequel stage, with Fast Five, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and G.I. Joe: Retaliation all raking in the cash at the box office. We already know he's set to return to the Fast & Furious franchise for this year's Fast & Furious 6 (along with next year's Fast & Furious 7, which has just been officially announced by Vin Diesel), and now it seems he's set to return to the role of Roadblock for G.I. Joe 3, which has already been given the green light by Paramount Pictures.

"What we would love to do with the sequel to G.I. Joe, which will definitely happen—we set ourselves up nicely with this past G.I. Joe because we really paid attention with respected homage to the mythology," said Johnson in an interview with Collider. »

Dwayne Johnson Talks G.I. Joe 3; Says They’ll Use the 3D Platform “in Even Better Ways”

16 April 2013 9:15 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Though 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was a sizeable success at the box office, Paramount decided to retool their approach to the franchise with this year’s sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  The studio’s secret weapon for the follow-up was Dwayne Johnson, who has quickly become a kind of “human steroid injection” for film franchises in need of a punch-up (see also: Fast Five and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island).  Johnson took the lead this time around as Roadblock, and the result was an impressive $40.5 million opening weekend with a worldwide total currently sits at a little over $270 million.  Understandably, Paramount officially greenlit yet another G.I. Joe sequel mere days after Retaliation opened in theaters. Steve recently spoke with Johnson in anticipation of Michael Bay’s upcoming black comedy Pain & Gain, and the actor talked briefly about the preliminary plans for G.I. Joe 3.  Hit the jump »
