Mel Gibson Now Co-Producing 'Mad Max 4'

31 December 2009 9:29 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

The last we heard about Mad Max 4: Fury Road, British actor Tom Hardy was the most likely replacement for Mel Gibson. Of course, details about the project are hard to pin down, and Hardy himself said recently he doesn't know if he's been cast or even what role he's up for, which leads to even more speculation about the latest chapter in this story.

Now Moviehole reports that Gibson will be involved in the film at some level, his Icon Entertainment announcing it will co-produce Mad Max 4. That doesn't expressly mean anything other than Mel Gibson is a pretty shrewd businessman, which we already knew, and he recognizes the worldwide interest this project might attract. »

Mel Gibson Co-Producing Mad Max 4, But Will He Star?

31 December 2009 6:23 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

According to Moviehole, actor/director Mel Gibson's production company has announced that it will be producing Mad Max 4. Whether or not that means Gibson will be reprising his iconic role in what is rumored to be a prequel is unsure, but news that he's committed to the flick can only be a good sign.

Mad Max director George Miller says he wants Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in the fourth movie. Hardy was previously reported as having won the lead as young Max, but now says that he is yet to get an official offer and that his audition had nothing to do with the lead character.

It's still too early to tell how all of this will shake out, but we can't imagine a Mad Max movie without Mel — even if he's only there to provide flashbacks.

Gibson May Appear In Mad Max After All

31 December 2009 6:09 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Now this is deep speculation based on the tiniest bit of information dropped by Clint over at MovieHole, but Mel Gibson may still show up in Mad Max: Fury Road despite recent announcements that he wouldn.t. The latest news from the Ozploitation remake is that Gibson.s production company, Icon Entertainment, has decided they.d like to co-produce the film. What does this mean for Mad Max? Probably nothing beyond getting a bit more money and representation, but it puts Gibson close to the set in time for shooting. Could we see a cameo from Gibson? Will he be the bad guy? Or, like Clint suggests, will he narrate? Nothing like that has been confirmed, I.m just stretching my rumor muscles. Either way, Mad Max is trucking towards production with Bronson star Tom Hardy in the leading role, and based on his performance there, we.re going »

Mel sorta on Mad Max

We've known Mad Max: Fury Road is officially coming, and while director George Miller has stated it would be an Australian production, he hasn't said who was actually behind it. And the series' star Mel Gibson has been cagey when it comes to his own involvement. Turns out they're tied together -- according to Moviehole, Gibson's company Icon Entertainment is co-producing the movie. Icon has a bit of clout, since they made a few bucks with The Passion Of The Christ. That doesn't necessarily »

Mel Gibson may have just made his acting comeback with the yet-to-be-released Edge of Darkness and the Jodie Foster-directed comedy, The Beaver, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing his work as a director. After impressing with The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto, it looks like Gibson will be working with Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time as he directs an untitled Viking movie.

When Happy Feet surprised audiences in 1996 and wound up bringing in just shy of $200 million and won an Oscar for Best Animated Film, you knew a sequel was happening. I'm just surprised it took this long to really get it mobilized. But Elijah Wood and Robin Williams have officially signed on to reprise their voice roles from the first film in the upcoming sequel. George Miller, who is also busy prepping Fury Road, will again direct the animated film and the actors are headed to »

Tom Hardy might be the new Mad Max..

3 December 2009 12:43 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

George Miller is looking towards Tom Hardy to star in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road film which is by far the greatest casting choice I have seen this year. MTV news caught up with Tom Hardy about this and here is what he had to say:

Hardy first wanted to set the record straight on his casting in the “Mad Max” movie. “George hasn’t actually confirmed that,” he revealed, quickly adding that “it’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.” While it certainly sounds like a lock, both from the reports we’ve been getting and from the actor’s own words, the guy can be forgiven for not wanting to spread around any wrong information.

That said, he’s certainly educating himself on the role, and coming to terms with the fact that he could very well be stepping into »

Update: Tom Hardy not confirmed for new ‘Mad Max’

3 December 2009 11:59 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

The casting game of musical chairs continues. Though it appeared that the casting of Tom Hardy to play the lead in Mad Max: Fury Road was pretty much a done deal, Hardy himself says that isn’t true.

“[Director George Miller] hasn’t actually confirmed that,” says Hardy about his casting. “The audition process had nothing to do with Max and nothing to do with the story or the script. It was unorthodox to the point where actually I could have been auditioning for anything. It was an anonymous read.”

Though there is no official word on Hardy’s casting, the Bronson actor says “it’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role. The Mad Max figure is a big figure, and I have to get my head around that.”

Will the new Mad Max be a a rehash of the original film starring Mel Gibson?

Tom Hardy on (Hopefully) Becoming Mad Max

3 December 2009 11:23 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

You have to have a wait-and-see approach to Mad Max 4. It's a cool story, even though the third movie is mostly stinky, but enough time has passed that it might be due for another chapter. Of course, with the apocalypse more popular than ever, Mad Max: Fury Road might sink into the background as just another sub-genre movie.

Director George Miller is returning to the scene of the crime, and it's a gamble to put so much of the burden of this film on the shoulders of Tom Hardy, likely to be the new Max Rockatansky. Yes, the first film did the same thing with a young Mel Gibson, and look how that worked out for the franchise and its star. However, Mad Max is a brand name now, so there are expectations. I'm not saying Hardy's a bad fit, but I am saying convincing people might be a bit of a process. »

Tom Hardy Talks Mad Max 4

3 December 2009 1:20 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Talented British actor Tom Hardy (RocknRolla, Bronson) has taken part in an interview with MTV where he spoke about George Miller’s upcoming fourth installment of his iconic Mad Max series, currently known as Fury Road.

Before any questions were even asked, Hardy wanted to state that he has still not officially been cast as Mad Max:

“George (Miller) hasn’t actually confirmed that. It’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.”

Now whilst I’m a fan of Tom Hardy, this statement still gives me a glimmer of hope that Mel Gibson himself may yet return to play the role which he made so iconic. As a huge fan of the Mad Max trilogy I trust creator George Miller to deliver an excellent fourth movie, however there are just some characters in cinematic history that have been portrayed so perfectly by an »

Tom Hardy Talks Mad Max

2 December 2009 11:24 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In recent months there have been many rumblings about Mad Max 4, specifically entitled,  Mad Max: Fury Road. All have been covered here on Screen Rant – but the main one is that British actor Tom Hardy (Bronson) was being eyed to replace Mel Gibson in the titular role of Max.

No official announcement has been made about the role, but Hardy spoke exclusively with MTV about his possible appearance in the film – and he seems to be as uncertain (or unforthcoming) about the details of the film (which is due to shoot down-under next year) as director George Miller and Mel Gibson.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz quizzed the actor about the film and Hardy stated that he was far from a lock for the film:

“George hasn’t actually confirmed that. It’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.”

Exclusive: 'Mad Max' Speaks! 'Bronson' Star Tom Hardy On His Coming Game-Changer

1 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Tom Hardy landing the starring role in "Mad Max: Fury Road" is an amazing turn of events for that franchise. You might remember him as Handsome Bob from "RocknRolla." But if you really want to understand the awesome power of Hardy in the loner badass role once occupied by Mel Gibson, you have to check out the UK import "Bronson," in which Hardy portrays real-life sociopath Charlie Bronson, a man who's been bounced between more than 150 correctional facilities and mental institutions. He carries the challenging film with ease, crafting a vile character who you nonetheless want to root for.

Recently, Hardy was gracious enough to take some time out of his schedule for a chat with MTV's Josh Horowitz. While the topic of the discussion -- pegged to Hardy's selection as one of the people we're most thankful for in 2009 -- was mostly on what's been for the actor, he »

Jeremy Renner to Play Hawkeye in Avengers?

27 November 2009 12:44 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner may be up for a small recurring role in Marvel’s superhero slate, including 2012’s The Avengers.

In an interview with Empire, the magazine asked about him possibly filling the un-cast Captain America role, but another name came up instead.  “I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we’ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.”

In the comics, Clint Barton a.k.a Hawkeye doesn’t have any super powers, but he’s a trained acrobat and master marksman with a quiver of “trick arrows.”  He’s inspired by Iron Man to become a costumed hero and later falls in love with Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson).  Hawkeye becomes a member of the Avengers by breaking into their mansion. »

Will Hawkeye Be In ‘Thor’ And ‘The Avengers’… And Will This Guy Play Him?

27 November 2009 9:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, North Country) recently spoke with Empire magazine, and he hinted at a possible role for him in the Marvel universe. The Empire chaps suspected the hero in question was Captain America, but Renner surprised them when he revealed instead that he may be up for Hawkeye. I don’t know if I’d be right for Captain America... I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn... he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.” I'm no real comic-book fan, but even with my limited knowledge of the characters I'd have to agree with Renner's assessment. Hawkeye is probably most similar to DC's Green Arrow, a hero who preceded him by over twenty years, but he's definitely the cooler of the two. Both men lack any true special powers, but »

Jeremy Renner to Play Hawkeye in The Avengers and Thor?

27 November 2009 3:00 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner was once vying for the role of Mad Max in Fury Road, but lost out to Tom Hardy. However, Renner may land an iconic role in The Avengers and Thor instead. Renner told Empire that Marvel is talking to him about playing archer hero Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye.

Hawkeye could be interesting. [Marvel's] going to send me some stuff on it, see what it is. But I think they're pretty awesome, trying to make superhero movies almost plausible and not just some fantasy thing.

Renner would apparently make a cameo appearance in Thor and have a larger part in The Avengers. The casting is still unofficial.
