'Jeff Kellogg (II)', the great grandson of the founder of The Kellogg's Company, was considered for the part of Edgar, but 'Alexander Freeman' felt that 'Paul Horn' captured his vision the character the best.
The opening beach scene where Lenore dies, was originally going to be filmed on Cape Cod but because of budget constraints executive producer Artemis Joukowsky suggested to Alexander Freeman that it could be filmed near his home in Sherborn Massachusetts. Alexander agreed and the scene turned out better than he had imagined.
The raven on the bust was not there in the room when the principle filming was being done. The bird was added later in the editing process using stock footage that was layered over the shot of the bust. It took 15 different layers to create what is seen in the film.
The branch shot outside the window took 2 hours to set up because the tree did not exist and a platform was built outside the window for the prop assistants to stand on to hold the tree branch and tap it against the window. All this was done in 87 degree heat.
