A bad practice in the art of improv.
digitalbookworm56789 August 2012
This story revolves around three brothers that have been "Tiger" Scouts for 10 to 20 years. Their father, the camp leader, has decided he is going to run away to join their mother. One of the inept brothers is going to lead the "Tiger" Scout camp. That story in itself might have made a funny premise for a comedy. Chris Kattan, normally very funny, flops in this film.

I'm reminded of the TV show "Who's Line Is It, Anyway" This whole film looks like an improvisational piece. Some of the jokes work, but most fall flat on their face. It's as though they were given the premise of each scene 10 seconds before the camera rolls. Maybe if they had taken the time to do more than one take on each scene it would have worked better. I was able to sit through this whole film. I'm sure I'll never watch it again.

Bills Revies For Short Attention Spans
bipbop1325 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I tried to like this movie, I really did. I've either been spoiled on classic comedies, or I'm too picky with the comedy genre, or this movie was just plain horrible. I tend to believe the latter will be true.

This story follows three brothers, The Appleorchards; Brandon (Chris Kattan), the bad one, and his two brothers David (David Schultz) and Tim (B.J. Bales) who find out that their father (Kip King, Chris Kattan's real life father) is joining his wife in the circus sideshow, and will be giving Camp Bear Claw to the winner of an eight week badge competition. And that's it. We base a ninety minute film on this premise.

First things first: Chris Kattan does NOT belong in feature films. He was only o.k. doing short skits for SNL. He comes nowhere close to any acting ability and spends most of the running time shouting, crying, growling and yelling. I hope SNL takes him back, or maybe he can be a talent behind the camera, because he certainly is not one in front of it.

Even Fred Willard, who has a small part as the Game Master, and giving updates over the loudspeaker to campers looks bored and seems like he's reading his lines off cue cards. The sophomoric comedy that this film is brought only a couple chuckles from me as a bear is running loose throughout the film, and there is a fart joke (I'll never grow too old for fart jokes). The film drags itself along so slowly that you wonder if this might not have had its beginnings as a rejected SNL skit that got drawn out to a feature length film. And whoever did this film's editing must have been a rookie as you'll see some scenes end as the actors are still reading lines. The whole film feels forced and rushed with bad material to work with.

And just to put the icing on the weird cake, David and Tim have a robot that talks and sings and goes out on dates with the female campers. Where the hell did this come from??? It's not funny, adds nothing to the story, and all I can think of was that it padded out the time by ten minutes or so. The special features (if you actually make it to them) are, the official trailer, deleted scenes, and a Brandon montage.

Look, it's as simple as this. If you want to watch a sophomoric comedy that actually has a few laughs in it, run down to the video store and grab "Ernest Goes To Camp."

I would hang my head in shame...

Was it me or was everybody in this film trying to be Tim Conway? If so, they all failed, miserably. The ones who weren't trying to be Tim Conway, were trying to be Jim Carrey. I was challenged to watch the whole thing just to see if there was even one laugh. The fart jokes almost made it, because it's really hard to screw up a fart joke. They did. What is really amazing, apart from the fact that people were actually paid to be in this, is that these were adults, and they allowed themselves the embarrassment. I can't imagine having this on your resume. I had to stop watching and started just listening, because I was embarrassed. The guy who played the son with all the merit badges, I don't know or care who he was, was just obnoxious, no other way to put it. Not that the rest of the crew wasn't. there's no good reason for writing this other than to vent out of frustration. If you haven't seen it, proceed with extreme caution. You have been warned. It is beyond bad.

Camp kattan

I usually get sucked into watching movies that people claim are the "worst movie ever" . guess cause i have to see for myself. most the time people are right , but they got it mostly wrong with this one. Is it low budget? , yes. Is it silly ? , yes. But it isn't the worst movie ever. Chris kattan made this movie for me. It reminded me of his old snl days, just a lot of ad lib non nonsense stuff that he is good at. His scenes with his girl friend are hilarious and are my favorite parts of the movie . Without him though, I would have stopped this movie way short. The other notables in this film didn't add much and could have been utilized a lot better. It's worth a watch if you like Chris kattan and have some time to kill.

This stinks big time...
chrysalisgifts13 August 2011
I rented this movie because we are scouts and so we thought it may be funny and it had our interest because of the scouting connection. We put in the DVD and watched for about 15 minutes and could not take it anymore. Chris Kattan can be weird and wacky...Fred Willard plays a lot of annoying or disgruntled characters...but this movie stinks big time! The acting was so awful, the plot uninteresting, the humor devoid of any amusement at all...I am not kidding, when I say this may be the worst movie I've ever seen! Do yourself a favor, if you have an inkling to rent this -- DON'T! Rent something else and spare yourself the misery!

Ultra funny, Scouts humor!

Supper fun movie. I couldn't believe this was not a hit. Mostly fun and hilarious ad-libbing. Seems like they had to kill a couple weeks kill, and got together some comedians to have fun and role with it. Fred Willard is a blast. Super fun if you are a scout or associated with scouting! FUNNY FUNNY!!
