A memorable scene from the trailer does not appear in the final film: A group of down-sized people are drinking from a life-sized bottle of Vodka, which in the "small" world would hold the comparative volume of hundreds of gallons.
Downsizing premiered at the 74th Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2017. It was chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2017, while Chau has earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 75th Golden Globe Awards.

The trailer for the film creates the false impression that Paul is distraught with his call center job at Land's End, and that this is one of the reasons for his decision to downsize. But in the final film, he actually doesn't take this job until after downsizing, following the divorce. Likewise, a scene of Audrey selling shoes from the trailer that leads to her being similarly distraught does not appear in the final film at all.
A trailer scene depicts a vodka bottle on its side with a spigot. Although the final film shows delivery of similar bottles of vodka, it does not show a bottle with a spigot or anyone consuming from the large bottles.
