Nine spends big on local content

The Nine Network is channelling tens of millions of dollars freed up from the end of its output deal with Warner Bros. into a record investment in local content.

Spending on local production will continue to rise over the next three years to the point where the network invests $100 million more per year than currently, executives said at the upfronts presentation today.

While Nine retains the first-run rights to The Big Bang Theory, director of programming and production Andrew Backwell said the broadcaster decided to relinquish the re-runs (subsequently acquired by Seven) because it preferred to spend the money on local content.

The 2016 line-up includes the Matchbox Pictures drama Hide & Seek, Cjz.s previously announced two-part Alan Bond miniseries House of Bond and a new factual series, Prison: First & Last 24 Hours.

Daryl Somers will return to TV as the host of You.re Back in the Room, a FremantleMedia Australia

Spartacus: Vengeance Actor Joe Naufahu Joins Game Of Thrones Season 6

According to Deadline, Joe Naufahu (Spartacus: Vengeance, The Last Saint, The Kick, Go Girls) has booked a recurring gig on season 6 of Game O Thrones. The site doesn't have any specifics on who he'll be playing, but there's a decent chance he's been cast in one of the new Dothraki roles. In the season 5 finale, Dany find herself surrounded by a khalasar so there's bound to be a few characters from that group emerging as more prominent players. Could Naufahu be Khal Jhaqo, perhaps? We'll update as soon as we know more. Game Of Thrones will return next April.

The movie’s group of teens consists of Kristen Connolly (TV’s As the World Turns), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anna Hutchison (TV’s Go Girls), Fran Kranz (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules) and Jesse Williams (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy), and they’re off to a cousin’s cabin in the woods for some much needed R&R before exams. The surprise is, we find out early on that they’re not you’re average dumb teens despite their good looks.

But the further surprise is, every move they make is being monitored by staffers in a some kind of bunker, headed by Richard Jenkins (Friends With Benefits) and Bradley Whitford (TV

MPAA Rating: R

Synopsis: A group of friends at a cabin retreat scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out.

View the trailer Here.

Let me preface this review by saying that I went into the theatre to see The Cabin in the Woods with equal parts of extreme hope and extreme trepidation – extreme hope because I am a loyal Whedonite and extreme trepidation because I am not at all a fan of slasher/ torture porn films. After peeking through my fingers for a good half of the movie, I am happy to report that The Cabin in the Woods is a pure genius mix horror, sci-fi, fantasy and humor all rolled

First ‘Cabin in the Woods’ Clip and ‘Prometheus’ TV Spots

Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard and The Avengers helmer Joss Whedon aim to turn the horror genre on its head with next month’s The Cabin in the Woods (which the two co-wrote together and Goddard directed), while Sir Ridley Scott returns to the world(s) he created in Alien with this summer movie season’s much buzzed-about Prometheus – and today, we have new footage from each film to share with you.

The delayed Cabin in the Woods features a cast of attractive young people that includes Chris Hemsworth in his pre-Thor days, alongside such folk as Fran Kranz (Dollhouse), Anna Hutchinson (Go Girls), Kristen Connolly (As the World Turns), and Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) as an unsuspecting group of friends who head out to an isolated cabin in the woods for some fun. Once there, they encounter a ...

'Terra Nova's' Jay Ryan Joins 'Beauty And The Beast'

The CW has found its Beast for its remake of the CBS series "Beauty and the Beast," and this guy looks nothing like Ron Perlman. Jay Ryan, who most recently appeared in the Fox series "Terra Nova," will star opposite "Smallville's" Kristin Kreuk in the pilot, which will follow in the footsteps of "90210" and the short-lived "Melrose Place" as nostalgic remakes of 1980s shows on the netlet. Ryan, 30, played Curran in "Terra Nova," a soldier who went bad and was banished from the Terra Nova camp. He appeared in three episodes of the series. He has also appeared in the Australian drama " Offspring" and the New Zealand drama "Go Girls" in recent years, as well as making a guest appearance in the 2010 "Legend of the Seeker" episode "Eternity" as Alistair. Much of Ryan's work has been ...

Jay Ryan has joined The CW's Beauty and the Beast pilot. The project, loosely based on the '80s CBS drama of the same name, will star Smallville's Kristin Kreuk as NYPD detective Catherine. Terra Nova's Ryan has now been cast as 'beast' Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a botched military experiment, according to TVLine. The 30-year-old actor's other credits include Australian series Sea Patrol and New Zealand comedy-drama Go Girls. Life Unexpected's Austin Basis will also (more)

'Beauty and the Beast' casting: Kristin Kreuk's Beast is Jay Ryan

The Powers That Be behind The CW's "Beauty and the Beast" pilot have finally found their beast. Thirty-one-year-old Jay Ryan, a New Zealand-based actor known in the U.S. for small roles on "Terra Nova" and "Legend of the Seeker," will play Vincent Koslow. Koslow, the victim of a military experiment gone horribly wrong, now looks like a monster.

His "beauty," Catherine, is set to be played by "Smallville" girl-next-door Kristin Kreuk. Catherine witnessed her mother's murder nine years ago, but remembers that the murderer was killed by a Beast quickly after.

And then they solve crimes! No, but seriously, they solve crimes.

Though Ryan isn't well-known to American audiences, he's a TV veteran overseas, having appeared in "Neighbours," "Go Girls," and "Sea Patrol," among other series. Also, he just looks like he belongs on The CW, doesn't he?
