Fox’s Lucifer Trades Nicholas Gonzalez For Kevin Alejandro

1 July 2015 7:01 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Fox’s upcoming adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic series Lucifer has gone through a bit of a casting shuffle. According to Deadline, the show has lost actor Nicholas Gonzalez, who will be replaced by True Blood and Arrow alum Kevin Alejandro.

The role is that of a gruff homicide detective for the Lapd, who grows wary of the eponymous former Underworld ruler’s burgeoning relationship with his wife and daughter.

More News From The Web

No reason for Gonzalez’s exit was given, and it sounds like his part in the pilot will remain intact despite the role swap. That means there’s going to be a slight bit of confusion for viewers when the show debuts next midseason. Still, Alejandro should be a fine replacement, so I’m excited to see what he does with the role.

Upfronts: USA Network Grabs ‘SmackDown,’ Loads Up on Scripted Development

7 April 2015 8:32 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

USA Network is doubling down on WWE, bringing “SmackDown” over from Syfy next year as part of an effort to hike the volume of live programming on NBCUniversal’s flagship entertainment cabler.

The move of “SmackDown,” a slew of development projects, new programs featuring the Chrisley clan and summer scheduling announcements were unveiled Tuesday morning at USA Network’s press upfront gathering held at 30 Rock’s Rainbow Room.

USA Network president Chris McCumber made it clear in his presentation that the cabler is shifting the focus of its original programming to court a millennial audience. He noted that the generational shift of millennials now making up the largest component of the 18-49 audience is well under way. USA’s new shows are built around stories and characters that exhibit “bravery, optimism, self-reliance and hope” — all themes that resonate with millennials, per McCumber.

The Face of an Angel movie review: fiction is stronger than truth

27 March 2015 1:43 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A contemplative film pondering the nature of the difference between reality and fiction, one with resonance beyond the true-crime story it’s kinda sorta about. I’m “biast” (pro): mostly love Michael Winterbottom’s movies

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Let’s be perfectly clear: The Face of an Angel is most definitely not the story of the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, who was killed in Perugia, Italy, in 2007, or the story of her roommate, American student Amanda Knox, who was tried and convicted of the crime along with her then boyfriend. (And then they were acquitted on appeal.)

Well, it is that story. But it isn’t, either. It’s both and neither at the same time.

Okay, look: British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom (The Look of Love, Everyday) is »

Sleepy Hollow Granted Season 3 Renewal

18 March 2015 2:39 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Fox has committed to more outings of its mystery-adventure series Sleepy Hollow, as today the network announced that the show has been granted a season 3 renewal. The third season has been earmarked for 18 episodes which are set to further explore Ichabod Crane’s relationship with Lieutenant Abbie Mills. It will also mark the introduction of new showrunner Clifton Campbell.

Campbell, creator of The Glades, takes over the position from Mark Groffman. The former showrunner is thought to have exited due to poor ratings during its second season, which saw a staggering 40% drop following a promising debut season.

With a fresh set of eyes serving the tale of Crane and his cohorts, Fox’s President of Entertainment David Madden is confident that the show will continue to break the mould:

Sleepy Hollow’ is truly inventive television. The talented producers -led by Alex, Bob, Len and Heather- along with the brilliant cast, »

Gotham's Lesley-Ann Brandt Replaces Lina Esco As 'Maze' On Lucifer

17 March 2015 8:00 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

According to THR, actress Lesley-Ann Brandt (who played Copperhead on Gotham) will replace Lina Esco as Maze on Fox's Lucifer pilot. This character was first introduced in the pages of Neil Gaiman's Sandman as Lucifer's right hand woman, who eventually follows him to Earth. She's described as "a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman" on the show. The pilot will be directed by Len Wiseman (the Total Recall remake, Underworld), who will also executive produce along with Tom Kapinos, Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman. The original logline for the show was pretty similar to the comic series, and had Lucifer growing tired with his infernal responsibilities and relocating to La where he opened an exclusive piano bar called Lux. Now it seems it's "undergone an evolution toward a police procedural", with the character getting his kicks helping the Lapd punish criminals. Tom Ellis will »

First Look At Bryan Cranston & Diane Kruger In The Infiltrator

11 March 2015 5:01 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

When Empire met Bryan Cranston a few years ago on the Total Recall set, he was pleased to explain the importance of the right hair for a character. On the occasion of the sci-fi remake he was rocking a sort of luxuriant, floppy grey-blonde affair, whereas in his most famous role in Breaking Bad he has no hair at all. "A shaved head and facial hair is the most aggressive look you can have," he expained, fixing us with a beady stare. So have a look at his latest piece of head furniture in Brad Fuller's '80s-set thriller The Infiltrator and tell us what you think he's going for here...Adapted by Ellen Brown Furman from customs and excise agent Robert Mazur’s autobiography, the film finds Cranston as Mazur, who must investigate dodgy dealings by going undercover as a man named Bob Musella. Joe Carnahan Set to Direct One Time Possible Tom Cruise Starrer 'Motorcade'

11 March 2015 4:14 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Before Tom Cruise decided to star in Knight & Day for James Mangold he was considering several projects. One was The Tourist, which Johnny Depp ultimately took, another was The Matarese Circle, which would have put him alongside Denzel Washington with David Cronenberg directing and the other was Motorcade, a thriller that was, at the time, to be directed by Len Wiseman, who instead went on to direct the Total Recall reboot. Looking at those options, it seems Cruise made the best choice for the time, but Motorcade never really died and Dreamworks is now ready to bring it back to life. It was just announced Joe Carnahan has been brought aboard to direct the thriller which pits the U.S. president against terrorists who commandeer his motorcade on the streets of Los Angeles and Carnahan is bringing along his Smokin' Aces star Ryan Reynolds to play a disgraced Secret Service »

Die Hard: ranking the movies in order of quality

You know what the best Die Hard is. You know what the worst is. But where do the others sit in the Die Hard league table?

A quick preamble. Over the course of the coming weeks and months, we're going to be exploring many of our favourite movie franchises, and ranking the films in order. Mainly because it gives us a further chance to talk about many of our favourite films.

Inevitably, the ordering in these cases isn't always going to come as a surprise - we go into this with the first and last place in most of these lists immediately obvious - but it's interesting to see how the movies stand in the context of each other. Police Academy week in particular should be a hoot.

When it comes to ranking the Die Hard films then, the battle is really between Die Hards 2 and 3 for second place. But »

Daredevil, Elektra & Bullseye Concept Art By Warren Manser

Concept artist Warren Manser ("The Dark Knight Rises") has a great collection of concept art that he created for Mark Steven Johnson's ("Ghost Rider") 2003 superhero film Daredevil. The film starred Ben Affleck ("Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice") as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Jennifer Garner ("Butter") as Elektra Natchios and Colin Farrell ("Total Recall") as Lester Poindexter/Bullseye. Below, are some alternate costume designs for all three. I especially like Elektra's trademark red costume better than the black leather getup she wore in the film. There's also alternate red and dark grey/black costumes for Daredevil, which should pique your interest. Daredevil (2003) - For Daredevil, justice is blind, and for the guilty, there's hell to pay!
