Fake Ratings

All the 8-10 star ratings are written by people who are associated with the filmmakers- this is the ONLY review they have written. Go figure!

Started out strong
The_Boxing_Cat9 December 2019
It fizzled out about half way through and then it took a left hand turn and became boring. The entire segment where Sarah comes into the picture was meaningless. Should have stuck with the story line and cut out the unnecessary fluff.

The acting was pretty good.

As far as those people who left reviews here talking about how they were connected with the filmmakers didn't do the film any favors- made it look desperate and pathetic. Besides, it's not the proper venue to tell their B.S. There is no way that this movie is a 10 out of 10, so I'm assuming that they too are connected with the film in one way or another...I subtracted one star because of these fake ratings.

great film

Great film for all ages! The characters were believable and the cast chosen was perfect. This is a film that everyone can associate with in some way. There were both funny and heartfelt moments throughout. These days it seems like if you want to go see a movie with your kids your only choice is an animated film. While these are good it is nice to see a film with real actors and real life situations that you can take your family too! It gives families an opportunity to talk about these family situations that come up in real life. For that reason alone this film should do extremely well. Add in the great film work and wonderful acting along with the well written script and this piece of work should be a hit!

Absolutely Incredible!
pa_branton3 January 2011
I saw this movie to support my friends, Juli Erickson and Bill Flynn. But I never dreamed how this movie would touch my heart! The storyline, interactions of the characters, cast and crew, cinematography, and locations, were sheer genius! It made me look into my own life and see that I needed some work on my family relationships. I had tears in my eyes when I shook Mr. Huckabee's hand, thankful that I was able to experience something that so touched my heart. Don't get so caught up in your everyday lives, that you miss the importance of nurturing your family relationships. Tom, thank you for having the insight and heart to make this amazing film possible! I hope everyone gets to see this!!

Carried Away at the Texas Theater in Dallas, Dec. 26, 2010

Bill Reese is happy to have attended the premier of Tom Huckabee's movie "Carried Away," at the Texas Theater in Dallas, Dec. 26, 2010. Most of the cast were at the premier. After the first showing of the movie, there was a reception. The cast were there introducing themselves and answering questions about the movie. It was exciting to meet the actual stars in the movie and the writer/director, and the producers and editor.

The movie was captivating, hilarious, touching, relative, realistic. I will not spoil it by telling details, but I suggest this movie for everyone. It will offend all equally (kidding). No really though, it is very witty, without the use of excessive foul language, violence, or sex.

I loved this movie!

I'm a ninth grade student and I loved this movie! My mom and I both liked this movie and we don't always agree on movies. The characters are great, especially the granny and grandson who rescues her. The dad and brothers are crazy! My mom went to high school with Tom Huckabee and said that the movie is partly based on Tommy's life. Wow, that is SO cool. I bet he had a fun life growing up. I wish I had known him back then. I would have loved to meet his family! And I would have loved to meet his granny. She reminds me of my great grandmother, Mama Jewel. She was full of life and we all loved her. I give this movie two thumbs up!

Go West,, Old Lady...

Warning: Spoilers
Virgil leaves no footprints in hell because, as Dante notes, the dead have no weight. Tom Huckabee's "Carried Away" also has a weightlessness, even when the film is basically the story of a family unravelling and reravelling (I love making up words) around a Christmas road trip or kidnapping, depending on whose lens your looking from.

What Huckabee does wonderfully is capture the light and dark in so many characters, which initially appear as contradictions but finally amount to a whole-of-the-many-parts. Only someone with experience in the South can truly recall family prayers that were 1/3 holy, 1/3 political manifesto and 1/3 admonishment for a recent mistake, all over a holiday dinner.

I am thinking of a Czech novel--The Unbearable Lightness of Being--which was in reality just the opposite--a story about the oppressive weight of the world. Huckabee has given us the opposite--a film which plays on the accumulation of dysfunctions until we are "Carried Away", when in fact the film is the opposite: a beautiful testimony to a family, a story, a script and a director who never allowed himself to be just that--Carried Away. Time well spent watching this!

Note: Sublime music...look for more from Theater Fire in the future...

Really Funny-Great All Around
pixelvision13 July 2010
I really loved this film. I saw it at a film fest and thought it was what I thought The Savages was going to be - but was not!!...and The Savages was nominated for an Oscar(and it think won)! But back to Carried Away - It was definitely a LOL movie (laugh out loud for any grannies out there) and made me feel like I am not alone in my thoughts about my own grandmother. This is what I love about independent films and so much better than Hollywood studio junk. I've read a little bit about the director and the making of the film which made me like it even more.

I think Carried Away's good for a Church Group film night, a College Film Society Night or date night at home. I would watch it again for sure!

Universal and Engaging
bettinahooper10 June 2021
I've been disappointed by the self involved, self satisfied navel gazing that indie movies have become over the past 15 or so years. Carried Away touches on some truths we can all relate to. I'm glad to have found it offered on Amazon.

I hadn't realized the film is well over a decade old: excellent and engaging direction and script and some fine performances make it both timeless and timely storytelling.

Amazon is currently offering 'the director's cut'. It's pretty clear when you watch the film why a directors cut was necessary. It's a shame to think that those who saw the general release didn't actually see this film. It actually means something to us all.
