A few episodes in and some of the red herrings are starting to fall to wayside. In this episode of "Harper's Island", another major character suffers an unfortunate fate, during the wedding rehearsal of all events! Henry (Christopher Gorham) just wants Trish (Katie Cassidy) to get away from the wedding planning for a little while, urging her to have a nice little bike ride with her father, Thomas (Richard Burgi). This bike ride turns dangerous when Trish's bicycle trips a wire setting off a large log trap nearly killing her. Invited by her father to come get some things from the house, Abby (Elaine Cassidy) goes into the attic and discovers that Sheriff Charlie Mills (Jim Beaver) has been keeping a record not only of the Wakefield murders, along with newspaper articles and autopsy photos, and is currently detailing a possible copycat. She is noticeably perturbed by this. JD (Dean Chekvala) finds a new friend in little Madison (Cassandra Sawtell) as the two set off firecrackers much to Henry's dismay. Lucy's dog is seen by Trish which recalls to us her being burned alive while the missing Reverend Finn (who was beheaded by a spade while caught in a trap hanging upside down) leaves the wedding rehearsal without a pastor. Important is the appearance of a badly mangled, butchered raccoon left at the altar of the church, but the ultimate weapon inside this building is from above: the chandelier is triggered to set off a blade for some poor soul who happens to be under it. This surprise kill is important in that the one who gets it must've been the target as he was right underneath the chandelier at the exact time the trap went off (who would know that he was to stand in that exact spot? Hmmm…). The ordeal about the $250,000 and Booth's accidental gun shot wound, resulting in his demise, leaves Malcolm (Chris Gauthier) tormented; he persuades the other guys that Booth may have perhaps fled for home, possibly with the loot…you just know that only bad can come of this, especially since Malcolm still has the money, torn between his desperate desire to keep the cash and knowledge that he buried their friend in the woods. Speaking of the woods, damn these trees extend high into the sky; they seem to have no end. An interesting new character is introduced, a burn victim who sicked his dog on Thomas and Trish; after Thomas uses a broken liquor bottle to dispose of the dog threatening to kill him, the burned man finds his dead pooch and you can imagine he's sore even if it was his fault. In this episode characters like Chloe and Cal are absent, I guess because they weren't essential to certain plot developments. As I have mentioned before, in slasher movies the killer is often the one you least expect, so I have been looking at certain characters like Henry who seems to good to be true, although the show does well at keeping us guessing. It really could be just about anybody other than those potential suspects who are killed off. Sheriff Mills pulling fishing fire from a lake, body parts emerging, is quite a revelation!
