"Snap" has the state troopers arriving by plane to Harper's Island. So the troopers will fly in and save the day, right? Wrong! The sheriff arrives to meet them, and they are greeted with bullets to their chests! Just like that rescue is eliminated. We never see Sheriff Charlie's face, however, just the recognition of the troopers who are immediately stunned and then shot before they could even defend themselves. Quite a hook for the opening of the show, and these violent couple gunshots to the police doesn't paint a swell picture for the sheriff in the least. But there's more to this that meets the eye and it does involve Wakefield. Madison has a revelation for Trish involving a lie she had to tell Abby in order to keep her mom safe. Jimmy's boat explodes, and the gang (those still alive, that is) now find themselves holed up in the local Harper's Island bar. A gunman sniper shoots at them from a distance, and when Cal and Sully head for a local girl's car this madman fires at them (Maggie is lynched by a rope by the gunman when she tries to leave the bar, believing she's safe from harm because she's not technically part of the entourage associated with Abby). A key to Abby's room at the resort is left on the person of Jimmy, delivered from Charlie's truck, his body falling from the hood to the ground, concluding that she will have to meet her father there. But someone else has a surprise in store for Abby. At least, Abby learns that she is Charlie's daughter, not Wakefield, but a trap has been set that ends the episode Charlie sacrificed himself for Jimmy, a rope trap meant for him with Abby having to see it firsthand. Cal endures a gunshot to the shoulder and Sully will have to tend to it once they reach the dock where another boat is located. Attempts at getting off the island have yet to work so time will tell who of the number can accomplish such a difficult feat. Oh, and Shawn continues to be an ass, drowning his miserable existence with as much liquor as is available to him. Four people actually die in this one, with yet another pivotal character exiting the show in Charlie Mills. His departure packs an emotional punch: set up as a possible killer, enduring knowing Abby will watch his death but saying goodbye with terror and anguish in his face and eyes, Charlie departs with good graces instead of bad. Potent stuff. That fade to black when Abby meets face-to-face with her nemesis is quite a cliffhanger for the next episode.
