Stallone did it himself on the first film. Then he drafted in Simon West to take the chair for the sequel. And now it looks like Australian director Patrick Hughes is set to get the job for The Expendables 3.
Taking to Twitter yesterday, Stallone teased a number of clues as to the identity of the new director, before finally announcing that Hughes was his choice for the job, recommending the director’s feature debut, Red Hill.

The action star, who also co-writes the franchise, took to Twitter to announce Hughes's involvement in the third instalment.
The 66-year-old started a string of tweets with: "The director is an Aussie………", before writing: "Not Mel...Fresh talent... Directed a Damn good film 2 years ago…Think."
He added: "Ok .. Last Hint He is New.. the last film he did was more Red than Blue…"
Hughes previously directed the movie Red Hill in 2010, which Stallone then went on to name check in a subsequent tweet.
The 66-year-old actor continued to heap praise on Hughes in another tweet, which read: "Hey , Everyone should go look at Patrick Hughes short film on U-Tube It is called Signs . It will move you in a Good Way. You will Love it!"
