Terrifying a generation
3 May 2011 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This film inflicts a terror and an enduring effect like few others. As the first reviewer said, most of us saw it in a school hall when we were aged between seven and ten.

It scared me so much that, nearly a decade later when I was a teenager comfortably over six foot (so about 1.92metres), I was still frightened when strangers approached me.

The music is unsettling, the animation creepy and the shot where a brick is removed to reveal a man's face gave me nightmares for years afterwards.

I'm now a father of two and I'm sure it would have the same effect on my children - thankfully they are too young to watch it. Times change but I bet this film has kept its power.
