The Cast and Creators of 'Better Call Saul' Aren’t Interested In Happily Ever Afters

15 March 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Let's face it — "Breaking Bad" was never going to be easy to follow. After having an international phenomenon on their hands, "Better Call Saul" creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould knew that they had a bit of a challenge when it came to expanding the world of such a universally beloved show with a spin-off prequel. However, as "Saul" embarks further into its second season, the show has proved itself as absolutely worth the risk. The series centers around Jimmy McGill, six years before he enters the world of "Breaking Bad," and features exactly what led the formerly goodhearted lawyer to the shady person he becomes, along with the cast of characters that assisted in that transformation. Although Jonathan Banks (Mike) wasn't present, Bob Odenkirk (Saul/Jimmy/Gene), Rhea Seehorn (Kim), Michael McKean (Chuck), Patrick Fabian (Howard) and Michael Mando (Nacho) were all on hand and more than eager to »

Review: 'Better Call Saul' keeps weaving in and out of 'Breaking Bad' territory

14 March 2016 8:04 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's Better Call Saul coming up just as soon as I do the Carol Burnett thing with my ear... "You don't save me. I save me." -Kim What an oddly structured show Better Call Saul can be at times. Throughout the series, Jimmy and Mike rarely interact — or do it briefly, as happens here when Jimmy expresses concern about Mike's battered face  — and are moving through stories with completely different tones, usually featuring different characters (though both of them have run afoul of Tuco and Nacho at some point), and at times feeling like different genres. Their lives and stories are destined to become far more entwined, but at the moment, Jimmy's in a legal dramedy and Mike's not only in a hard-boiled crime show, but one that for now has much more of a direction connection to Breaking Bad. Saul is far from the »

‘Better Call Saul’ Cast and Creators Talk Getting to Saul Goodman at PaleyFest

12 March 2016 6:30 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The “Better Call Saul” team feels the urgency to move its storyline along to catch up with the “Breaking Bad” era, but they’re also enjoying exploring the life of Jimmy McGill before he transformed into Saul Goodman. That was the sentiment shared by “Saul” creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould on Saturday during the PaleyFest session on AMC’s “Breaking Bad” prequel.

“I was saying all the time in the room to the writers, ‘We better get cracking here. We better get to Saul Goodman because if people tune in, a safe assumption is that’s who they’re tuning in to see,’ ” Gilligan said during the screening and Q&A at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, which was moderated by Variety‘s Debra Birnbaum. Gilligan admitted that he had been nervous the character of Saul, the shady criminal lawyer who became a central figure in “Breaking Bad,” wasn »

‘Better Call Saul’s’ Bob Odenkirk, Showrunners Talk Jimmy McGill’s Transition to Saul Goodman at Season 2 Premiere

3 February 2016 12:43 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

At the Season 2 premiere of “Better Call Saul” at the Arclight Cinema in Culver City on Tuesday night, Bob Odenkirk weighed in on his character’s transition from Jimmy McGill to Saul Goodman.

“I think it’s a big drop off,” Odenkirk said. “It’s a slow journey, and then all of a sudden, he finds himself as Saul, I think that’s how it is going to go. My gut tells me he fights like hell to not be Saul, and then he just gives up for some reason that’s probably pretty potent and painful.”

The executive producers and showrunners of “Better Call Saul,” Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, said the timeline for when Jimmy would become Saul has been in constant flux.

“In the early going, we thought he would become Saul Goodman by the end of the season, or maybe by the middle of Season 1,” Gilligan said. »

'Better Call Saul' Videos Offer First Look at Season 2

15 January 2016 2:22 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, AMC debuted a new trailer for the hit series Better Call Saul, where Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) was given a new job by Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). As we count down the days to the Season 2 premiere on Monday, February 15, AMC has released yet another trailer, which is much more cryptic. This footage shows Saul in a seedy Mexican dive bar, as he drowns his sorrows while a mariachi band is playing. The big question is, whose call Saul avoiding?

As Saul downs another shot, his cell phone rings, although he doesn't answer it, staring at his phone with contempt. Could it be his brother Chuck McGill (Michael McKean)? Both Saul and Chuck didn't exactly end the first season on good terms, when it was revealed that Chuck made a deal with Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), forcing Saul out of his big class-action case that he took to their firm. »
