The 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2010

31 December 2009 9:38 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

For many people, a new year means a time for new habits, resolutions, and fresh starts.  For myself though, it’s always been about one thing and one thing only:  365 days of brand-new films!

And of course, Hollywood being Hollywood, there’s the usual litany of sequels, super-hero spectacle, remakes, and state-of-the-art Hollywood summer craziness filled with all manner of digital monsters and explosions.  But there’s also new films from Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, and - most intriguing of all - a ballet thriller from Darren Aronofsky.  Come on, admit it - you know you got excited when you heard the words “ballet thriller!”  All that, and we also see the return of Michael Douglas in his seminal role as Gordon Gecko.

Read on after the jump for my list of the ten films that - for reasons both good and bad - I’m most looking forward to seeing in the new year. »

Sr Pick [Video]: The Dark Knight is Confused Rap

31 December 2009 4:19 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The popular Barely Political channel on YouTube has a series of hilarious parody videos about geek culture, pop culture and internet celebrities. In their Key of Awesome series -- which regularly garners over a hundred thousand views, sometimes in the millions -- they put up an awesome music video which pokes fun at the biggest comic book movie of all time: The Dark Knight.

The episode is titled “The Dark Knight is Confused” and stars Batman himself alongside Alfred and The Joker with a funny intro from Commissioner Gordon and his son. This is a must-watch; Batman’s beginning to wonder if his movie makes sense…

Key of Awesome episode #8:

I laughed out loud a few times while watching this and I applaud the folks at Barely Political for their creativity and work put in this and the other videos they have up. And much respect to Mark Douglas »

20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 include 'Eclipse,' 'Iron Man 2,' 'Harry Potter'

30 December 2009 8:05 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

After a somewhat disappointing, or at least, flat 12 months at the multiplex, 2010 is shaping up to feature one of the more exciting movie slates in years. From the third "Twilight" movie, "Eclipse," to "Iron Man 2" to Chris Nolan's "Inception," the next year could top 2009's record haul. Oh, and the movies might be a whole lot better too. »

Deciphering Chris Nolan’s ‘Inception’

30 December 2009 3:36 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

So the first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception recently appeared online, but I’m still hearing some people say that if the trailer wasn’t stamped with “from the director of The Dark Knight” they would have little motivation to actually care about the movie.

Now granted, Inception has maintained an air of almost total mystery every since we first learned of its existence, but with the clues that have been carefully sprinkled here and there, we here at Screen Rant think there’s enough potential for this to be a breakout film in 2010. We’ll explain why, with some hi-res photos helping to paint the picture (click on any still image below for a hi-res version).

So let’s take a crack at the most obvious question – What is Inception all about?

In past coverage of the movie, we’ve learned that Leonardo DiCaprio stars as “a CEO »

Inception: Leonardo DiCaprio's Magical Mind Game (New Trailer!)

30 December 2009 3:27 PM, PST | TheImproper.com | See recent TheImproper.com news »

Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest flick “Inception” has all the elements to be a blockbuster sci-fi, fantasy action-adventure movie: Hot director, Christopher Nolan, hot leading lady, Marion Cotillard, and edgy hot co-star Ellen Page. Now, if only the plot makes sense. The latest trailer has just been released and it shows the film talking place in a mushy, squishy world, otherwise known as the mind. Think a blend of the “Matrix” movies and 1998’s “Dark City.” »

2009: The Truffles – The HeyUGuys Awards

30 December 2009 2:32 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

With the proliferation of Top Tens and Best Of lists on the internet at this time of year we wanted to try something a little different.

2009 was an important year for the business of cinema; games were changed with the acquiescence of audiences to the notion of 3D, low budgets met with large returns, old franchises spawned reboots and rebakes with varying success, the British film industry remained strong and gave us some bright new stars in our sky.

We asked our writers to come up with an alternative set of awards which would honour those films, directors and actors who made 2009 such an enjoyable year. Strong emotions are rendered in strong language, be warned if words offend.

So, here now, I present to you our awards for 2009 – The Truffles.

Tracy

2009 meant, for me, the respectable return to sci-fi.  Star Trek, District 9, Moon and now Avatar showed that sci-fi »

'Siege' Thoughts, Illegal Comics Downloading And Philip Tan's Nova In Today's Twitter Report

30 December 2009 11:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Matt Fraction and Brian Michael Bendis have been spending some time together, and last night's topic of conversation was "Siege" #1. Judging from the comments, Bendis may or may not have trapped Fraction in his home, and being sealed in Bendis' house may or may not be a good thing.

Elsewhere, Ron Marz had some fighting words for illegal comics downloaders -- and particularly for those who are superhero readers. Check out his take on comics pirating after the jump along with some original Nova artwork from Philip Tan, Bryan Lee O'Malley's clarification on his "Inception" tweet yesterday and Robert Kirkman's beard.

37 New High Resolution Photos from Christopher Nolan’s Inception

30 December 2009 3:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

When the trailer for Christopher Nolan's new film Inception began to screen attached to early press screenings of Sherlock Holmes, movie bloggers around the internet (including our own David Chen) attempted, from memory, to recall the imagery from the new teaser. It wasn't an easy task considering all the craziness that happens in the new trailer, which yes, was released online earlier this week (see it here). Warner Bros has finally released an unwatermarked high definition version of the trailer. And since it is a slow news week (blame the holidays), I thought it might be good to create high resolution captures of some of the moments from the trailer. Check them out now, after the jump. [gallery order="Desc" columns="2" orderby="ID"] The film's logline is “a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." The New Trailer for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’

29 December 2009 1:57 PM, PST | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

We haven’t even hit 2010 yet, and already Christopher Nolan’s Inception is easily one of the most talked-about, buzzworthy films of the year. Sure, it might have a little something to do with the fact that his last film was The Dark Knight, but also because his follow-up stars Leonardo DiCaprio and looks a lot like The Matrix. Not much is known about Inception, except that it’s a sci-fi thriller that takes place within the architecture of the mind. Based on the trailer, it would appear DiCaprio is part of a team that can somehow enter the minds of others and retrieve valuable information. As such, the real trippy parts of the preview – like when the water is turned sideways or when the guys are fighting on the side of a wall – all probably take place...

'The Green Hornet,' Ellen Page In 'Inception,' And The Minnesota Vikings In Today's Twitter Report

29 December 2009 11:31 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

A few movie-related cheers and jeers got tossed around the Twitter Report's feed over the last 24 hours. Joe Hill seems to have been catching up on his "Green Hornet" news, and both Michel Gondry and Anvil have his approval. Bryan Lee O'Malley, meanwhile, sounded a little skeptical of Ellen Page's role in the new Christopher Nolan film "Inception."

In sports/comics crossover conversation, Brian Michael Bendis noticed the trending Vikings topic last night that was spurred by the Chicago Bears victory over Minnesota. He hoped that "Viking" writer Ivan Brandon would notice as well. Check out all of those retweets after the jump along with a birthday wish I endorse going out to Jeff Katz and a memorial shout out to Star Trek actress Majel Barrett, which I also support.

Second Inception Trailer with HD Links

29 December 2009 9:57 AM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Warner Bros. has dropped a second teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's Inception and, like the first, tells us very little other than to expect the unexpected.

The film's official tagline is "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind" and the trailer confirms that a crime has been committed within someone's mind, most likely Leonardo Dicarpio's CEO-type character. But is he asleep or awake during this trailer? Or both?

There's a great shot of a city literally folding over on itself as Ellen Page and DiCaprio look on. This must be in his mind, or their mind ala The Matrix. Either way, Nolan likely has some great twists up his sleeve.

Inception also stars Ken Watanabe as the "bad guy," Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Batman Begins' Cillian Murphy. Look for it in theaters on July 16.

A Second Look at Christopher Nolan’s Inception

29 December 2009 7:57 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

We had “Inception” originally pegged as a sci-fi film, but let’s face it, this thing isn’t really all that sci-fi. So, we’re going to start covering it on BeyondHollywood.com more often now as a result. The latest — a brand spanking new trailer for “Inception”, which reveals more of a plot, complete with voiceover narration by Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays a high-tech thief named Cobb in the movie. He’s joined by Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Michael Caine, and Lukas Haas. “Inception” tantalizes July 16, 2010. And here’s a fresh poster from the movie released a week or so ago. Looks like Warner Bros. is trying to ape the success of Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” by way of posters. »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Seven

29 December 2009 7:16 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Mother and Child

Opens: 2010

Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington

Director: Rodrigo Garcia

Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.

Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.

The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

Fantastic New Trailer For Christopher Nolan's Inception

29 December 2009 6:11 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

[It's back, it's in English, and it's high res.  Check out the new Inception trailer here.]

Call it the anti-Avatar.  Slick, intelligent science fiction that relies on concept rather than flash to engage the audience.

At an advance screening of Sherlock Holmes a couple nights ago I was treated to the new theatrical trailer for Christopher Nolan's Inception and came away much impressed.  Yes, the voice over on this particular trailer is a bit over bearing but the imagery and concepts lurking all the talk are absolutely fantastic and - most impressive - was how much of this is being realized in-camera with CGI being used only when absolutely necessary.  Such as when rolling up a city.  It's a use of technology that stands in stark contrast to James Cameron's approach with Avatar.  While Cameron created new technology to create artificial worlds, Nolan went the opposite direction and used existing technology to shoot the real world in a way that made it appear foreign and disorienting. »

Trailer: U.S. version of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ lands online

29 December 2009 4:15 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception. Yesterday, the studio yanked the French trailer and, we’re not sure if they had planned to release the U.S. this soon, but here it is for your eyeballs.

The same thing happened in November when the Russian trailer for Angelina Jolie’s Salt landed online. The trailer was quickly squashed and replaced with a U.S. version because we just can’t handle foreign shite.

Inception revolved around a “CEO-type” who who becomes involved in a blackmailing scandal. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page (Juno), Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai), the lovely Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), Joseph Gordon Levitt ((500) Days of Summer), Tom Hardy (RocknRolla), Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins), Tom Berenger and Michael Caine.

Inception hits theaters on July 16.

New Inception Trailer Debuts Online, This Time in English

29 December 2009 3:59 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Before the latest Inception trailer premiered locally at screenings of Sherlock Holmes, a French version with no English subtitles was passed around the Internet while Warner Brothers did damage control and tried to shut it down as quickly as they could.

Now that Holmes has opened, the Inception trailer has debuted online, claiming that "the most resilient parasite" is "an idea" in its confusing, city-folding, and mind-bending glory. One thing's for sure: With two trailers released, director Christopher Nolan has still managed to keep the plot of his thriller a secret. See if you can figure out the story below.

Along with Iron Man 2, Tron: Legacy and Alice In Wonderland, Inception is one of the films for 2010, which has been creating buzz among the film industry.
