When Hood is examining the skin scrapping, he places it on a standard glass slide and then onto a standard optical microscope. He then says that he is using an electron microscope. Samples for an electron microscope require much more preparation (extremely thin slices) and are then placed in a vacuum chamber. The real images are monochrome and not full color as shown. See more
