Mme Ramotswe tries to phone JLB who has gone fishing. She is clearly disappointed. JLB is in a pensive mood. He has to get away to think about something that has been gnawing him: his love for Precious and her refusal to marry him. The lady detective is clearly disappointed about the disappearance of the man.

There is a new detective agency in town. Cephas Buthelezi is, supposedly, a former New York City detective. He has also worked in Johannesburg. He comes with to Gabarone with impressive credentials. However, he thinks that women doing this type of job are a joke. When Mme. Ramotswe comes to pay a courtesy visit, she meets a man who thinks he is superior because he has the background needed to do the work.

Mr. Patel comes back to Precious. He wants her to help solve finding the mysterious Jack, supposedly the boyfriend of his daughter Nandira. The lady detective follows the young woman trying to see what she does, and whom she meets. All indication shows she is always alone. Precious discovers the truth when she follows Nandira to a cinema where the detective realizes the boyfriend is something the girl has created to annoy her father. Mme. Ramotswe is surprised when she goes to tell Mr. Patel what her investigation has shown, because Cephas Buthelezi was also engaged by the Indian merchant, unknown to Precious.

The entrepreneur, Two Shots Pulani has commissioned Precious to check the backgrounds of the finalists for Miss Beauty and Integrity contest. Since Precious is busy with the other case, she asks Grace to go interview the women. It appears that all, but one, have an agenda if the win. Only one, Patricia Kopong, meets the high standards expected of the one being selected. Little prepares Precious and Grace for what ensues after Patricia is pronounced Miss Beauty and Integrity.

At the conclusion, Precious who is driving home, notices JLB coming from the opposite direction. They stop, and it is clear she wants to see what is going on in his head. Precious makes it easy for JLB when she suggests she wants to hear again whether he wants him to marry her. We knew the answer before the mechanic can make the formal proposal.

Another fun episode of this series based on Alexander McCall Smith's novels set in Botswana. The direction is credited to two men, Tim Bricknell and Tim Fywell and the writing to Robert Jones. The books set the action in the African nation of Botswana featuring the lady detective. Jill Scott plays the lead role. The supporting African cast is as endearing as they were in the written page by Mr. McCall Smith.
