Trivia

The hotel that Bill and Sookie check into in Dallas is called Carmilla. Carmilla, by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, is the title of one of the first vampire novels, published in 1872. It is the basis for numerous films, including Vampyr, Blood and Roses, Crypt of the Vampire, Carmilla and Carmilla (2011). Carmilla was also the name of the main vampire villain in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust See more »

Soldiers of the Sun
31 October 2009 | by (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) – See all my reviews

Jason shows great leadership and attitude and is invited to join the elite group "Soldiers of the Sun" and move to Sarah and Steve Newlin house. Tara tells Maryann that she is moving to Sookie's house. Sam swims in the lake with Daphne and decides to stay in Bon Temps a little longer. It is Tara's birthday and she decides to visit her cousin Lafayette; however he is seriously wounded and asks her to leave him alone. Out of the blue, Eric visits Lafayette and offers his blood to heal his wound. Meanwhile, Bill, Sookie and Jessica travel to Dallas to the Hotel Carmilla as agreed with Eric to investigate the disappearance of the powerful vampire Godric. However, the driver of the limousine attempts to kidnap Sookie, but Bill saves her. They interrogate the driver and they find that the church is behind the attack. Daphne tells Sam that she knows what he is, and she discloses that she is also a shape shifter. Maryann promotes a birthday party for Tara and she uses her ability to transform it in an orgy.

This episode is divided in interesting and boring parts. Jason and the Fellowship of the Sun is a ridiculous, boring and long segment. Maryann, Sam and Daphne are the most interesting characters of this show. The power of Maryann is intriguing and I do not know whether she is a demon that feeds of the sexual energy in the bacchanal that she creates with her power. Despite being the lead character, Sookie is annoying with her fake accent and grimaces while speaking usually stupid lines. Fortunately Bill and Jessica save most of the scenes with this irritating character. The name "Hotel Carmilla" is certainly homage to the Gothic novella by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. Last but not the least, there are excessive sex scenes. My vote is seven.
