This short came up because Pedro Almodóvar was so happy with Carmen Machi's performance that wrote the monologue she said the night after she shot her scene in Broken Embraces (2009). Next morning, Almodóvar approached Machi with the script and filmed it that day. See more »

"La concejala antropófaga" or "The Cannibalistic Councillor" is a Spanish 8-minute short film from 8 years ago written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar under a pseudonym. It is very loosely connected to his full feature film "Los abrazos rotos". In this little film here, we basically have a woman talk for the entire film about her approach to life in general, but also about how sex is the only thing really important to her while another woman is sitting opposite her and sleeping apparently, but dreaming about what the main character says all the time. I must say while I really liked "Los abrazos rotos", this one here did not do a whole lot to me. The moment when she talks to the audience is fine and it's visually a good watch too with all the bright colors and costumes and set decoration, but in terms of contents and story this was pretty underwhelming. That is also why overall I do not recommend checking it out. Thumbs down.
