This story is inspired by the legend of the South Carolina Lizard man. The film opens with the burning question asked by every parent in South Carolina. Clemson or USC? Households are generally aligned long before a child is ready for college. Poor black children such as Darnell (Sean Earl McPherson) actually attend South Carolina State. During the discussion the vehicle has issues and the lizard man takes out Darnell's parents. Decades later a group of five young adults become tourists in his area. Cleetus (Matthew Baunsgard) runs the local tourist trap. He sends the group camping in the area as per their wishes. The Lizard Man is an acting critic and decides to attack the cast.
This is a "real legend" although I have not met anyone in South Carolina who knows this was a hoax. There has been one sighting by one person. The acting was bad and the script was not great. It is loosely a cabin-in-the-woods type of film. The lizard man stomps in the moist ground swamp sounding like Godzilla.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
